Job Description:

The Senior System Administrator will lead the design, modernization, security, and compliance of our IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure. This role leads and mentors a team of System Administrators, owns the infrastructure roadmap, and drives the transition from legacy systems to secure, scalable, and automated platforms. The ideal candidate brings 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience, deep expertise in Azure, Windows Server, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365, and a proven track record of leading teams, delivering modernization projects, and maintaining a strong security and compliance posture.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of System Administrators. Assign and prioritize work, set performance goals, conduct reviews, and build team capability through coaching, knowledge sharing, and training.
  • Infrastructure Architecture: Design, document, and own the end-to-end architecture for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud infrastructure, including servers, storage, identity, networking, and backup, ensuring scalability, high availability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Azure Cloud Management: Architect and manage the Azure environment, including landing zones, subscription and resource governance, Azure VMs, Virtual Networks, Azure Backup and Site Recovery, Azure Files, Azure Monitor, Azure DNS, Key Vault, and Azure Policy. Optimize cloud spend through Azure Cost Management and right-sizing.
  • IT Modernization: Build and execute the infrastructure modernization roadmap: migrate legacy workloads to Azure, upgrade or retire end-of-life systems, adopt PaaS/SaaS where appropriate, and introduce automation and Infrastructure as Code (PowerShell, Bicep/ARM, or Terraform).
  • Identity & Endpoint Management: Oversee Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, and hybrid identity. Drive adoption of Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and modern endpoint management through Intune and Autopilot.
  • M365 Administration: Govern Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Intune, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive. Ensure secure, reliable, and well-governed operation of the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Security Operations: Define and enforce the infrastructure security baseline, including system hardening, patch and vulnerability management, Microsoft Defender, SIEM monitoring (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel), least-privilege access, and Zero Trust principles. Lead response and root-cause analysis for security incidents and major outages.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure systems comply with corporate IT policies, audit requirements (e.g., SOX IT General Controls), and frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Benchmarks, as well as customer or defense-related requirements where applicable. Maintain access reviews and change control, prepare audit evidence, and track remediation to closure.
  • Backup, DR & Business Continuity: Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans. Define RTO/RPO targets and conduct regular restore and DR tests.
  • Virtualization & Data Centre: Manage Hyper-V and/or VMware virtualization, storage, and on-premises server infrastructure, including capacity planning and hardware lifecycle refresh.
  • Monitoring & Service Management: Use NinjaRMM, Azure Monitor, and ticketing systems to monitor system health and performance, define service levels, and ensure timely resolution of escalated incidents and problems.
  • Project & Vendor Management: Lead infrastructure projects such as upgrades, migrations, and new implementations from planning through delivery. Manage vendors, service providers, and licensing, and contribute to IT budget planning.
  • Documentation & Standards: Maintain architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and configuration standards, and ensure team documentation is current and audit-ready.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with IT leadership, business units, and global Amphenol IT teams to align infrastructure with business needs and corporate standards.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in system administration and IT infrastructure, including at least 3 years in a senior, lead, or architect role and demonstrated experience designing and managing production Azure environments.
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading, mentoring, or supervising a team of System Administrators, managing priorities across multiple projects, and delivering at least one major cloud migration or modernization initiative.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expert knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (including hybrid identity and Entra Connect), Group Policy, and M365.

    • Strong experience with the Microsoft security stack: Defender, Intune, Conditional Access, PIM, and Microsoft Sentinel or another SIEM.
    • Automation and scripting with PowerShell; experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep/ARM or Terraform) is a strong asset.
