A career as a Senior Advisor in the Quality & Performance team at National Bank means acting as a specialist who strengthens underwriting quality and develops practical solutions that support excellence across our Real Estate Financing business. This role allows you to leverage your commercial underwriting expertise and deep understanding of complex real estate financing transactions to influence best practices, support business growth, and contribute to the success of one of the Bank's fastest-growing sectors.
Your role
- Review commercial real estate financing files and client strategies to assess underwriting quality, provide constructive recommendations, and promote consistency and sound risk management practices.
- Act as a trusted advisor to underwriting and sales teams by supporting the structuring of complex or non-standard financing transactions and identifying tailored solutions.
- Analyze quality trends, business needs, and performance indicators to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
- Support the development and delivery of targeted coaching, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen underwriting expertise across the business.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and enhancement of policies, processes, tools, and best practices aligned with the Bank's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with partners across Canada and influence stakeholders to drive underwriting excellence, consistency, and a strong risk culture.
Your team
The Real Estate Quality & Performance Group is a specialized team within National Bank's Commercial & Private Banking 1859 sector. The team plays a key role in supporting underwriting excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge development across the Real Estate Financing business.
You will report to the Senior Director, Quality & Performance, Real Estate Financing and work alongside more than 250 specialized real estate financing professionals across Canada. While the team is established in Montreal and British Columbia, we are continuing to grow our presence in Alberta and are looking for an experienced professional to help support this expansion.
This position can be based in Calgary or Edmonton and offers a flexible hybrid work environment that combines collaboration, autonomy, and opportunities to work with colleagues across the country.

Prerequisites
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in commercial underwriting.
- Strong experience in commercial real estate financing and the analysis of complex financing structures.
- Solid understanding of credit risk principles, underwriting standards, and financing solutions.
- Knowledge of CMHC programs and commercial real estate lending practices is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and sound professional judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence internal partners.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and knowledge-sharing abilities.
- Demonstrated adaptability, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.
