Job description

Colas is a Canadian leader in transportation infrastructure - materials, construction, and maintenance. From roads to rail, airports to ports, we build some of the most important projects that connect our communities.

Backed by our network of Colas companies across Canada and the Colas Group worldwide, Colas offers a wide range of innovative and sustainable solutions for the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.

Join the largest transportation infrastructure group in the world and help connect Canada.

Mission

Join us in an exciting adventure to complete the Edmonton Valley Line West LRT - a remarkable legacy project that will redefine our community’s transportation landscape! Be part of this transformative journey and help us create a lasting impact for generations to come!

As a key member of the project team, you’ll play an important role in delivering complex rail and electrical systems safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. You’ll work closely with construction, engineering, subcontractors, and project leadership to keep work moving, solve challenges in the field, and help bring the project from construction through testing and commissioning.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead with safety and quality: Champion a strong safety, environmental, and quality culture while ensuring compliance with the Project Environmental Compliance Obligations (ECO) Plan and all applicable legislation.
• Plan and drive construction activities: Develop weekly work plans covering craft labour, resources, safety requirements, quality expectations, and productivity targets. Monitor progress and provide insight into schedule and workforce performance.
• Coordinate daily field activities: Ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, construction procedures, and technical requirements.
• Build effective teams: Develop non-manual and craft staffing plans that align with project schedules and construction sequencing.
• Keep the project moving: Identify potential issues early, coordinate site activities across disciplines, and minimize installation conflicts and interface challenges.
• Be the technical problem-solver: Respond to design and technical queries, investigate field issues, and work with the appropriate engineering and project teams to develop practical, safe, and effective solutions.
• Manage changes in the field: Initiate, track, and monitor Field Change Directives (FCDs) in collaboration with the site team and Package Manager.
• Work closely with subcontractors and stakeholders: Coordinate subcontractor activities, deficiency corrections, punch-list items, independent testing, and inspections to support successful project delivery.
• Support testing and commissioning: Contribute to installation, testing, and commissioning activities across multiple project disciplines, including:
o Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS)
o Traction Power and AC/DC Electrical Substations
o Stray Current and Corrosion Mitigation
o Communications Systems
o Train Control and Signalling Systems
• Resolve challenges proactively: Help identify and resolve issues such as:
o Scheduling and sequencing conflicts
o Work interference and interface issues
o Design errors, discrepancies, or omissions
o Deficiency and punch-list management
o Workmanship and quality concerns
• Communicate with confidence: Represent the company professionally through clear site communication, accurate reporting, and proactive engagement with project stakeholders. Escalate issues promptly and keep management informed.
• Lead by example: Immediately report close calls, incidents, and accidents in accordance with project procedures and contribute to a workplace where everyone goes home safe.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who combines hands-on technical knowledge with strong field coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline or an electrical trade certification with equivalent relevant experience.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience with systems and traction power.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop solutions aligned with industry best practices, safety codes, and project requirements.
• Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and Operations & Maintenance Facility requirements.
• Ability to confidently read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong technical aptitude and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Aconex and Primavera P6/P3 is considered an asset.
• Valid driver’s licence; a clean driving record is preferred.
The Field Environment
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be part of an active construction environment and will have the opportunity to see your work come to life.
You should be comfortable working outdoors in Edmonton’s changing weather conditions and navigating an active construction site, including uneven, steep, or slippery terrain. The role may involve climbing stairs and ladders and working from aerial lifts when required.
Why This Role?
If you enjoy solving problems in the field, working with a diverse project team, and seeing complex electrical and rail systems come together, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a high-profile project while continuing to build your technical and leadership experience.

DIVERSITY IS IMPORTANT TO US
At Colas, we believe our workforce should reflect the diversity of the communities we connect. By living our core values of Caring, Sharing, and Daring, we welcome all those who help create the links that bring us together. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of age, ethnicity, national origin, religious beliefs, disability, marital or family status, gender, gender identity or expression.
