Description

Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a leading Calgary-based EPCM firm delivering innovative facility design and engineering solutions across natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil, SAGD, and emerging energy sectors. We partner with top energy producers across Canada and internationally to design safe, reliable, and efficient facilities from early concept through execution and operation.

We are seeking a Piping Engineer-in-Training (EIT) who is eager to develop technical capability and gain hands-on experience within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment. In this role, you will support piping engineering activities on oil and gas facilities projects, contributing to design, analysis, drafting coordination, and construction support under the guidance of senior engineers.

Why Join Equinox?
• Meaningful work on high-impact oil and gas facilities, pipelines, and SAGD projects
• A people-focused culture that values technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Opportunity to develop and grow within multidisciplinary EPCM project teams
• Exposure to diverse facilities projects across Canada and international markets
• A flexible and supportive environment designed for long-term career development

What You’ll Do
As a Piping EIT, you will support the delivery of safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems. Your role will include:

Piping Design Support

• Assist in the design and layout of piping systems for oil and gas facilities
• Support preparation of engineering deliverables including line lists, piping specifications, and material requisitions
• Develop engineering sketches and markups to support drafting/design teams in creating 3D models and drawings
• Assist with material take-offs (MTOs), quantities, and documentation

Coordination & Team Collaboration
• Work with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, civil, electrical, and instrumentation
• Participate in design reviews and model reviews under guidance from senior engineers
• Support communication with internal teams and, as appropriate, vendors and clients

Project Execution & Delivery
• Support the delivery of piping deliverables in alignment with scope, schedule, and quality requirements
• Assist with vendor data reviews, technical queries, and procurement support activities
• Contribute to project documentation such as design basis memorandums (DBMs) and work packages

Construction & Field Support
• Assist with responses to RFIs and technical queries during construction
• Support field engineering activities, including site visits and inspections as required
• Help ensure designs remain practical, constructible, and aligned with project intent

Safety, Quality & Compliance
• Follow established engineering quality processes and procedures
• Support compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, B31.1)
• Demonstrate commitment to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements

About You

You are an early-career mechanical engineer who is enthusiastic about designing practical piping systems and learning from experienced teams. You bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
• Registered as an EIT or eligible for registration with APEGA (required)
• 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience (oil & gas or EPCM exposure considered an asset)
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
• A proactive mindset and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment

Technical Foundation

• Basic understanding of piping systems, layouts, and equipment connections is considered an asset
• Familiarity with P&IDs, piping drawings, and general facility design concepts is an asset
• Understanding of industry design practices and standards
• Exposure to ASME piping codes (e.g., B31.3) is considered an asset
• Awareness of materials, fabrication, and installation practices is an asset

Software Proficiency
• Exposure to piping design tools and 3D modeling environments (e.g., AutoCAD, CADWorx, Plant 3D, or equivalent)
• Familiarity with Navisworks or model review tools is considered an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools

Ready to Apply?

If you’re passionate about engineering excellence, enjoy leading technical scopes, and want to contribute to innovative and impactful energy projects, we’d love to hear from you.
