What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for providing oversight, guidance, and project management for day-to-day HR administration and the implementation of a range of HR programs and business process initiatives.

The manager also works closely with the VP, HR to support the development and launch of strategic projects.

This role is also entrusted as a subject matter expert ( SME ) on all relevant employment legislation and best practices related to policies, procedures, and developments within the HR community at large.

The owner of this role will participate in both supporting and leading resolution efforts involving employees such as workplace investigations, performance coaching and team development.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the relationship and work efforts shared by HR and Payroll, ensuring report deadlines are met, accurate and complete, and that all payroll and employee change activities are reflected in the appropriate systems.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship for the Human Resources Coordinator, including the delegation and oversight of job responsibilities, project work and other ad hoc tasks.
  • Performs or delegates and oversees scheduled and ad hoc audits to ensure data integrity across the Human Resources Information System ( HRIS ), and other venues where employee information is captured.
  • Reviewing job descriptions to ensure they adequately describe open positions.
  • Writing and revising HR policies to ensure alignment with company strategies and goals.
  • Develops and implements HR processes, practices, and policies to ensure compliance to all applicable legislation as well as the optimization of various HR functions.
  • Provides guidance and coaching to other organizational leaders and managers where applicable, in areas including but not limited to HR policies, programs, legislation, employee relations and issue resolution.
  • Leads the recruitment process for all roles below the level of Director, delegating files where appropriate to the Human Resources Coordinator (i.

e., entry-level administrative positions and part-time, hourly hiring).

Works with the VP, Human Resources in ensuring employees working remotely outside of Ontario are supported (e.g., through a PEO (U.

S. employee base) or regular touchpoint) and all regulatory compliance requirements are adhered to.

  • Provides intervallic and ad hoc reports, inclusive of HR key performance indicators ( KPIs ), employee data, insight on both internal and external trends, and other related areas to inform and support data-driven decision making.
  • Facilitates and leads enhancements to existing tools, business processes, procedures, and opportunities to enhance the efficiency and clarity of common administrative processes.
  • Manages the administration of the RCM’s disability and workplace accommodation management programs.
  • Collaborate with the VP, Human Resources to contribute to the development and roll-out of new HR programs, practices, annual budgets and resources for employees.
  • Participates as a management member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Participates as a management member of the Social Committee and manages expenses and budget.
  • Performs other role-relevant duties as required.

Job Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • An undergraduate degree or post-graduate education focused on Human Resources or Labour Relations, or a significant equivalence of practical work experience as an HR leader.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive, relevant experience as an HR professional.
  • Priority consideration given to individuals with a CHRP or CHRL designation.
  • Demonstrated leadership acumen, either in a formalized role or as a coach and mentor.
  • Current and in-depth knowledge of relevant employment legislation in the province of Ontario. Knowledge of other jurisdictional employment law, e.

g., in other provinces and / or the United States considered an asset.

Ability to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internal to the RCM and with external parties (e.

g., service vendors, recruiters, benefits program contacts).

  • A proven history of demonstrating a high level of customer service, willing to go above and beyond for employees and seek creative solutions.
  • High degree of detail orientedness in terms of work accuracy, written communications and providing suggestions for other stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills bolstered by an understanding of the audience and how to adapt to optimize addressing them.
  • Proven ability to influence critical decision making, persuade stakeholders where necessary, and demonstrate credibility as a trusted SME and business partner.
  • High degree of integrity both in the ability to uphold confidentiality and ensure processes and policies are followed consistently.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, particularly as they relate to anticipating and addressing the root cause of employee concerns and issues.
  • Knowledge of HRIS platforms and experience auditing and managing them.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software suites, ideally Office 365.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector, and in the arts, considered an asset.
  • Experience working with collective agreements and unionized employee groups considered an asset.
