SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Physical Security will be a key member of the BGIS Corporate Security and Business Continuity Management team, and will lead North American physical security initiatives, provide subject matter expertise on physical security matters across the company, and support security-related investigations impacting BGIS. The incumbent will work with concerned parties to ensure compliance with BGIS policies, client contracts, and relevant government protocols.
The incumbent will also provide support where required on client-related Threat and Risk Assessments and be a BGIS program champion for Insider Trust Program awareness.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People Leadership
Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Full involvement with recruiting talent.
- Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members.
- Objectively recommends compensation adjustments.
- Manages all aspects of performance.
Access and Security Management
- Facilitate employee, agency, and contractor site access for key BGIS corporate facilities in North America.
- Collaborate with internal and external concerned parties to ensure corporate access and security systems are functional and effective as per ISO 27001 standards and client requirements (where applicable).
- Ensures all physical security programs comply with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 (PSISA) and relevant Ontario privacy legislation (PIPEDA/FIPPA).
- Develops and executes a formal security audit schedule for managed properties, ensuring physical controls (locks, lighting, fencing) meet corporate and client standards.
- Provides subject matter expertise during building renovations or new construction by applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to blueprints.
- Facilitate corporate ID cards for BGIS employees in Canada, and collaborate with BGIS partners in the US, Europe and APAC to ensure consistency globally.
- Conduct physical access reviews to ensure compliance with BGIS security policies and ISO standards.
- Ensure redundancy in access management and card production in the event of an absence.
- Provide subject matter expertise across the portfolio on physical security matters.
- Maintains site-specific Post Orders and emergency response protocols for third-party security guarding partners.
Investigative Support
- Support and – when required – lead security-related investigations as per the BGIS Corporate Security Policy and affiliated procedures.
- Support and – when required – lead risk-driven investigative work relating to background investigations, acquisitions and corporate reputation. Utilizes incident management software to analyze security trends and provide senior leadership with actionable insights and risk-mitigation strategies.
Insider Trust
- Champion insider risk / insider trust awareness within BGIS, including maintaining up-to-date training, attending seminars and conferences, and where required support the CSO and business lines in insider threat – related investigations.
Business Continuity and Emergency Response
- Support BCP activations as required during an event, including social media scanning, media monitoring, OSINT, etc.
- Leads the development and testing of building-specific emergency response plans, including "Active Threat" drills and "Lockdown" procedures.
- Provides support during BCP activations, coordinating the physical security response to civil unrest, natural disasters, or technical failures.
- Collaborates with Facilities Management to ensure security protocols align with building emergency evacuation plans.
Other
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
EDUCATION:
- A university or college degree, or equivalent work experience showing an ability to analyze complex security situations effectively.
- Security related certification (APP, CPP, PCI, would be a strong asset.
- Understanding of Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) principles would be a strong asset.
JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years in the areas of physical, corporate or information security.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance Level II (Secret) or higher.
- Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Experience using access control and CCTV systems.
- Knowledge of supporting security disciplines, document control, visitor access, personnel security processing, and security processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information and findings to audiences at all levels of an organization, both verbally and through written communications.
- Must be responsive, customer-focused and possess the qualities of diplomacy, tact, discretion, and initiative.
- Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Requires the ability to make sound decisions, manage time, take independent action, analyze problems, and provide focused solutions.
- Strong and effective leadership skills.
- Working knowledge and understanding of ISO 27001 as well as other security related industry standards (such as ASIS International standards).
Desirable Qualifications
- Post-secondary university degree, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proof of training, certification or professional designation from a police or security agency, or an internationally recognized organization.
- Knowledge of physical, information, and cyber security principles and applications.
- Experience in design, implementation or management of large security technology projects.
- Experience in writing policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in conducting open source (OSINT) research or investigations.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
This is a regular, full-time position with a salary range of $84,493 - $105,616 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
