The Bishop Strachan School, a day and boarding school for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, is seeking a Security Guard to provide front-line security services for our historic educational facility.
The Security Guard's primary goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the BSS community, which includes over 900 students, boarders (students who live on-site), staff, families, visitors, and service providers.
Responsibilities include meeting, greeting, and directing all arrivals in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner, as well as adhering to the school's security procedures, including completing scheduled patrols.
This position requires vigilance, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to handle various security-related situations professionally.
This role involves patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings and access points, and managing entry and exit procedures.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for long periods.
- Capability to respond quickly in emergency situations, which may involve physical activity.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provides professional and friendly customer service and direction to members of the BSS community and the public to keep the school and the community safe
- Conducts regular patrols of school premises, including buildings, grounds, and parking lots.
- Performs regular perimeter exterior patrol to monitor driveways for unauthorized parking to report and follow up.
- Monitors and secures the main entrances, exterior doors, driveways, underground garage and other areas of the school through rounds and by utilizing the closed circuit television (CCTV) and access control system :
- Tracks the visitor log database and monitors the entry points regularly.
- Directs traffic and monitors cross walk during school drop off and dismissal periods throughout the year.
Qualifications :
- Valid Ontario Security Guard License
- Successful completion of relevant college diploma ie. Police Foundation Diploma and / or equivalent experience considered an asset
- Strong customer-service focus with excellent interpersonal skills, both in person and over the phone
- Experience working as security in a school setting considered an asset
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
- Proven ability to be vigilant with respect to security issues
- Ability to observe accurately, recall faces, names, descriptive characteristics and facts of incidents and locations
- Knowledge of fire prevention, fire control, evacuation and lockdown procedures
