We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our growing team, providing shared HR services across our entire Dealer Network.
This role will report directly to the Human Resources Director and will be responsible for managing key HR functions, including full-cycle recruitment, payroll and benefits administration, and employee onboarding and offboarding.
The Human Resources Generalist will serve as the go-to person for HR-related matters ensuring that processes are not only efficient but also in line with company values and behaviours that support the overall attributes for success.

Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Recruitment
- End-to-End Recruitment : Take ownership of the recruitment process from initial sourcing to final offer, ensuring that the right talent is brought on board to support the organization’s growth.
- Sourcing Strategies : Leverage a variety of platforms, including LinkedIn, job boards, and employee referral programs, to attract high-quality candidates for a wide range of roles within the dealership network.
- Employer Branding : Help promote the company’s employer brand through recruitment marketing initiatives, including participation in job fairs, online job postings, and community outreach.
Payroll and Benefits Administration
Onboarding : Oversee the onboarding process for all new hires, ensuring employees are set up for success from day one.
This includes ensuring accurate setup of entitlements such as vacation, RRSP, group benefits, and training.
Payroll Management : Manage payroll processes, ensuring accurate weekly time entry uploads from IntelliDealer (CDK) to Payworks.
Communicate any discrepancies with managers and ensure that payroll is processed on time and accurately.
Year-End Processes : Lead year-end payroll reconciliation, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements such as CPP, EI, WCB, EHT, and HET.
Ensure that all T4s and T2200’s are accurately prepared and submitted on time.
- Employee Benefits : Administer the company’s group benefits and RRSP plans. Assist employees with benefit plan selection, manage cost-sharing between the employer and employee, and handle any inquiries related to benefits.
- Life Event Changes : Process benefits updates resulting from life events (e.g., marriage, birth) and liaise with external benefits providers to ensure smooth administration.
- Data Integrity : Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee profiles in the HRIS and payroll systems. Handle updates to status, pay, and assignments, and ensure that all data is correctly tied to general ledger codes for financial reporting purposes.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- HR Support : Act as the first point of contact for employees with HR-related inquiries, providing advice and support on issues such as payroll, benefits, and policies.
- Offboarding : Oversee the offboarding process for departing employees, ensuring a smooth transition for both the employee and the company.
This includes updating platforms, processing final pay, and conducting exit interviews.
- File Management : Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of employee files, maintaining digital and physical records that align with company policies and legal requirements.
- Process Improvement : Continuously assess HR processes for efficiency and accuracy. Work with the HR Director to recommend and implement process improvements.
Work Conditions
- Office Setting : Primarily working in an office environment with regular interaction with other departments. Extended periods of sitting and computer work are required.
- Health & Safety : Maintain compliance with provincial health and safety regulations and promote a safety-first culture in the workplace.
Participate in training as required, ensuring ongoing awareness of regulatory updates.
- Housekeeping : Responsible for maintaining an organized and professional workspace, contributing to the overall cleanliness and functionality of the office environment.
- Duty to Report : Employees are required to report any injuries, illnesses, or workplace incidents to their supervisor immediately, ensuring prompt response and follow-up.
- Fit for Duty : Employees are expected to maintain fitness for duty during working hours, which includes adhering to safety policies when visiting operational sites or engaging in company activities.
- Confidential Information : As this is a sensitive role, the HR Generalist must handle confidential employee information with the utmost discretion.
- Customer Interaction : Occasional interaction with customers and the general public may be required, reflecting the company’s commitment to professionalism and service.
Competencies and Qualifications
Recruitment Expertise : Proficiency in full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing, interviewing, and candidate management.
Experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS) is essential.
- Interpersonal Skills : Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Able to negotiate, mediate, and resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
- Time Management : Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
- Regulatory Knowledge : Strong knowledge of Canadian labour laws, employment standards, and health and safety regulations.
- Technology Proficiency : Familiarity with payroll software such as Payworks and HRIS platforms. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- Experience : Minimum of 3+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, with a proven track record in HR operations.
- Payroll Expertise : Strong understanding of payroll processes, year-end reconciliation, and statutory compliance (T4, CPP, EI, WCB, EHT, and HET).
- Problem-solving skills : Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Confidentiality : High level of discretion when dealing with sensitive employee information.
- Own Transportation : Essential for attending job fairs and off-site meetings.
