Advisory Group Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager, Advisory Group & Infoline, the Advisory Group Coordinator is responsible for managing all relationships and communications with ASC’s Advisory Group of people with lived experience of dementia.

The Advisory Group’s objective is to provide a voice and platform for people ASC needs to hear from most, with perspectives from people living with different types of dementia at different stages of their journey, and care partners including different family members and ages.

The Advisory Group has a growing membership who engage in ASC’s core functions : dementia research, advocacy, fundraising, program development, and communication.

As part of their duties, the Advisory Group Coordinator will be easily accessible to all members of the Advisory Group, building and developing these relationships as a central point of contact, providing members with opportunities to work with ASC, and actively promoting and supporting the importance of engaging people with lived experience of dementia.

To be effective, the Advisory Group Coordinator must be considerate of the different needs of all people living with and supporting people with dementia, including those from diverse ethno-cultural communities, Indigenous peoples, and gender and sexual identities from all across Canada.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Act as the liaison between the Alzheimer Society and the Advisory Group for all matters related to lived experience
  • Coordinate all communications with the Advisory Group (through email, telephone, Zoom calls, social media, etc.) with a continuously maintained mailing-list, ensuring members are consistently engaged and supported
  • Welcome and onboard new members to the Advisory Group, providing introductions to the wider membership via virtual quarterly gatherings
  • Write regular newsletters and other bulletins outlining any new opportunities they can volunteer to be involved with, including advocacy, reviewing educational and informational resources, research engagement, and media and PR activities
  • Lead staff at the ASC and other provincial Societies where requested, with engaging Advisory Group members in alignment with organization goals and priorities
  • Develop plans for recruitment of more members to support and engage historically underserved communities
  • Participate in corporate initiatives and committees to provide learning, leadership, and talent development expertise, consultation, and support from the perspective of the Advisory Group

Your Qualifications and Education

  • Minimum of three years within healthcare environment preferred
  • Minimum of three years working in social or community health (ideally related to dementia care), or similar
  • Post-secondary degree in Social Work or Social Science with a focus on aging
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to speak to people in a clear, personable way
  • Proven experience building and maintaining effective relationships, ideally from a volunteer / non-profit perspective
  • Experience managing a growing network, maintaining tight schedules and communication touchpoints while developing plans for continuous engagement
  • Experience with growing a network or group, including direct engagement with third-parties to build trust, share community, and support growth
  • Unwavering compassion when working with people or clients going through very difficult times
  • Understanding of the dementia journey and how it impacts family members and care partners
  • Ability to motivate and inspire volunteers to actively engage supporters and participants
  • Results-oriented with the ability to develop and follow through on action plans for self and others
  • Competency with standard software tools (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, MailChimp, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data-entry and general utilization of database systems
  • Practical experience of working or engaging with different ethno-cultural communities and diverse personal identities across Canada, preferably within a health-related context
  • Strong organization skills, maintaining schedules, calendars, activity logs, and connections with key collaborators
  • Demonstrated passion for our mission and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications

  • Bilingual or strong proficiency in French; other languages would also be considered
  • Part of or access to a reachable network of people living with dementia and care partners, or a related group, to support the growth of the Advisory Group
  • Knowledge of engagement of groups through social media and other channels
