Job Description

The Manager, Planning & Portfolio Management will be responsible for the development and establishment and ultimately management of SMG's IT portfolio management practice.

The Manager provides leadership in the establishment of project management methodologies, processes, and tools to effectively deliver technology projects and change across the Seaspan Marine Group of companies.

Note : This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

  • Drives engagement with business leaders to cultivate a project delivery mindset, practice and approach from project definition and planning to governance and control, to final closure and success measures.
  • Establishes and manages an IT project portfolio process to intake, prioritize, gate and execute IT projects across Marine Group (SMG).

Facilitates, and at times leads, the development of project charters and budget approval requirements. Facilitates the identification and allocation of resources across projects within the portfolio.

Produces and manages the IT roadmap.

  • Supports the establishment of governance structures and forums to support clear accountability and decision making for the portfolio and within project projects.
  • Develops and implements portfolio management processes and tools to align project efforts with the organization's strategic agenda.

Develops and maintains project management methodologies, processes, and tools such as project charters, project plans, project controls, reporting and governance.

Ensures compliance with project management standards and procedures.

  • Monitors project progress and performance to ensure alignment with objectives, expectations, and commitments. Facilitates project retrospectives to incorporate learning and continuous improvement in SMG's project management capability.
  • Provides guidance and support for all IT project management activities within the organization. Establishes and leads forums (such as Community of Practice) to raise the overall level of project management capability within the organization.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders across multiple locations. Drives engagement with business leaders and project stakeholders to cultivate a project delivery mindset, practice and approach.

Establishes and manages communication mechanisms to ensure portfolio and project transparency, collaboration and dependency management.

Collaborates with stakeholders to prioritize and manage project initiatives.

  • Identifies change management impacts and collaborates with project teams to develop change management plans.
  • Collaborates with project managers and business leadership, manages project risks and develops risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversees the portfolio's budget and resource plan to ensure alignment with commitments and priorities. Works with project managers and business leadership to resolve conflicts.
  • Generates reports on portfolio performance and KPIs.

What you'll bring

  • University degree in a business or relatable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience with 5 years direct experience managing large organizational projects. Extensive practical experience with core processes including Maritime Operations, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Human Capital Management (HCM) and Business Intelligence (BI)
  • Experience in a variety of project management and organizational change management methodologies
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and relationship building skills to lead teams in distributed environments involved in delivering complex changes.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to engage with senior partners; collaborates effectively to meet common goals and objectives.
  • Meticulously organized and able to prioritize with business leads and defend prioritization.
  • Consistent track record in successful cross-functional program and / or transformational management
  • Able to think strategically and make quick decisions to steer transformation successfully.
  • Strong communication skills and business acumen to ensure partner management (up / down / lateral communications)
  • Strong coaching acumen with proven experience in developing others
  • Ability to persuade, influence, motivate and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Some travel may be required.

The estimated salary for this position is $112,500 - $137,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.

The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
