Overview

This position will provide consulting services required by electrical engineering expertise for commercial, retail, and high-rise residential buildings.

Will be responsible for managing and the and technical oversight of multiple projects. Will evaluate and review design and field engineering changes, ensure quality work and adherence to specifications.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direct and coordinate electrical planning and implementation ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and work order requirements.
  • Provide designs for items such as cable tray layouts, electrical equipment arrangements, lighting layouts, and LV single line diagrams.
  • Provide electrical calculations such as volt-drop, EHT heat loss, illumination level, distribution transformer sizing, and panel loading.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical systems and designs for commercial, retail, and high-rise residential buildings.
  • Coordinate with disciplines internally as well as externally with other consultants and architects.
  • Perform timely, accurate analysis to prepare reports and present findings to the client and other interested parties.
  • Prepare and create design drawings and specifications.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior and student engineers or technicians.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on project progress.
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Client interfacing, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience, Education and Certifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience designing HV substations, hydroelectric plants, MV and LV distribution systems, and large electrical systems is required.
  • Experience with fire alarms, lighting, and emergency power generation is an asset.
  • Experience with client relations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivating and able to multi-task while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to provide leadership to junior engineers and technicians.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed in both an office setting and at outside locations (e.g. client office, industrial, construction and / or residential sites).

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, walk on roofs, enter and work in confined areas, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites.

The employee may lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, as well as preparing written reports of findings.

This includes possessing the mental aptitude, cognition, concentration, and state of mind necessary to perform job duties, with negligible distractions that could jeopardize employee's work productivity, quality of work, and safety to self and others.

Overtime - There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.

Travel - This position requires up to 25% local area travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
