Founded in 1925, the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) represents over 800 certified dermatologists across Canada. The association exists to advance the science and art of medicine and surgery related to the care of the skin, hair, and nails, by providing continuing professional development for its members, supporting and advancing patient care, and raising awareness through thought- provoking public education campaigns. The National Office manages a budget of over $3 million with an Ottawa based team of professionals.
Currently, the CDA requires an experienced Manager, Recognized Product Program, a hybrid role at our Ottawa office.
The Programs :
The Canadian Dermatology Association has two long established programs under its Product Recognition Program (PRP) to help consumers find sunscreen and skin health products that meet high standards defined by our Dermatologist expert panel.
The Skin Health Program (SHP) recognizes skin care products that are fragrance-free or unscented, have low potential for irritation, and do not contain the most common allergens.
The Sun Protection Program (SPP) recognizes sunscreen products that meet a standard that provides effective sun protection. The approved products in both programs are licensed to display a recognized program logo and statement for which a licensing fee is paid.

These programs make it easy for consumers and patients to navigate through numerous products on the market to find products that have been reviewed by dermatologists and display the CDA logo of recognition
Requirement :
This key management position is responsible for leading the growth plan for these programs. Reporting to the Director of Programs and Member Services, the role oversees the development and execution of the business strategy, strengthens industry partnerships, enhances brand value for both industry partners and members, and advances program expansion to elevate the CDA’s presence in the consumer dermatology market. The position also plays an important role in providing public information and delivering meaningful member value.
This is a pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with strong business acumen (including marketing and B2B experience), an entrepreneurial mindset, and demonstrated experience managing programs. As a seasoned business professional with at least five years in leadership roles, you are comfortable supporting expert panels in making scientific decisions related to the RPPs and associated programs.
The successful candidate is a strong collaborator and innovator with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective business strategies in complex environments, ideally within the health sector.
As the ideal candidate, you recognize the critical role Certified Dermatologists play in improving patient care and health outcomes and understand the mandate and value of a national medical specialty association.
Key Roles :
Leadership and Relationship Building
- As the CDA staff lead for the two product recognition programs, provide insight and direction to shape program strategy in all aspects of these programs constantly monitoring the environment for risks and opportunities (including regulatory developments, scientific advancements, consumer trends and competing programs) to inform continuous innovation, manage issues and protect the CDA’s reputation and brand.
- Working in close collaboration with the two expert Dermatologist review panels, ensure that the technical framework of the recognition program (criteria and process) is robust and followed rigorously.
- In collaboration with Directors of Finance, Communications and Programs and Services and the Recognized Product Program expert panel members define the vision and annual priorities as well as the performance expectations for the programs.
- Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships regarding CDA industry partners and identify new business relationships and markets with potential partners.
- Work in close partnership with the senior leadership team and CDA staff to create and operationalize the business strategy typically with the Finance the Integrated Communications teams.
Business Strategy and Business Development
Develop a multi-year business strategy to ensure program growth, stability and visibility through diversifying the client base.Guide pricing, licensing structure, industry engagement tactics, and program value propositions to ensure growth and scalability.Provide to the CDA Executive team data-driven insights, market intelligence, ROI analyses and “state of the brand” reports, to support decision making.Identify potential reputational risks, competitive threats or emerging opportunities for the CDA to address via recommended proactive strategies.Establish KPIs, analytics dashboards, and performance metrics to measure the success.Identify and implement means to evaluate the ongoing relevance and effectiveness of the strategy and adjust strategy and messaging accordingly.Program Operations
Lead the implementation of the program’s strategy, with project management tools and reporting structures.Implement and maintain a robust performance management structure to measure performance including business strategy KPIs and operational program indicators.Manage internal financial and contractual processes, working closely with the administrative officer to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.Manage the scientific review process for product applications in collaboration with the expert Dermatologist review panels and the administrative officer.With the Integrated Communications team, develop and execute a robust marketing and communications plan (publications, guidelines, web updates, media training, consumer campaigns, videos, presentations and other marketing collateral) to both CDA members, industry partners (current and prospective) and the Canadian public that supports the strategic direction of the CDA and builds awareness and trust in the recognized product program.Maintain brand consistency and alignment with CDA standards across all program channels.Ensure the creation and production of program materials, communications products, publications, and advertisements and trade show collateral (e.g., brochures, guidelines, presentations, videos, speeches, statements).Required Education, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, with a concentration in business, communications, advertising or marketing or equivalent experience.Must have a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles developing and implementing business strategies in complex environments and managing programs, preferably heath care.Entrepreneurial mindset used to working individually and in small teams.Excellent collaborator and innovator with experience in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with B2B and B2C relationships.Strategic focus on corporate results while managing organizational issues and competing priorities.Experience in brand management, licensing / accreditation programs.Must be able to lead expert panel committee meetings and work effectively with physician professionals, maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders and program partners.Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation and storytelling capabilities; proven experience with presenting and reporting to Boards and / or Senior Executives.Ability to participate in committee meetings on regularly scheduled eveningsBilingualism (English and French) is an asset.Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000. The Canadian Dermatology Association also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental coverage and paid vacation.
