Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients / clients / residents and families : Leads the strategic planning / design, implementation, promotion, evaluation and maintenance of projects and initiatives designed to support professional nursing practice including scope of practice and regulations, clinical informatics, patient safety priorities, acute care nursing orientation, resource planning, and research in order to enhance practice environments and effective and efficient quality care.
Leads and supervises assigned staff who support these initiatives, including the General Clinical Nurse Educator team, and oversees, plans and evaluates Fraser Health's Acute Care Orientation Program.
Responsibilities Leads the strategic planning / design, implementation, promotion, evaluation and maintenance of various nursing practice issues, projects and initiatives including those related to professional standards, scope and regulations, nursing models of care, clinical informatics, acute care nursing orientation, patient safety priorities, resource planning, and research activities.
Provides leadership to and guides clinical teams to enhance their understanding of professional nursing standards, scope of practice, quality of practice initiatives, new technology integration or innovative practice approaches in order to embed new / changed practices into clinical practice across all sites and programs.
Develops and implements strategies and procedures that support these initiatives and ensures that planned practices are designed to support the maintenance or enhancement of clinical care delivery.
Develops and recommends nursing models of care that supports best practices, nursing regulations, improved patient / client access, and efficient flow of patients / clients across the continuum of care;
identifies and reviews current and future service delivery needs, works in consultation with clinical leaders, and recommends implementation plans that will meet identified goals.
Plans, leads and evaluates the Acute Care Orientation Program across Fraser Health. Leads and supervises the General Clinical Nurse Educator team and their work related to nursing practice and the Acute Care Orientation Program.
Promotes consistent care to our patients / clients / residents / families across sites, programs and professions by decreasing unnecessary variations in care practices through the integration and promotion of evidence informed best practice.
Monitors practice trends, identifies opportunities that promote innovation and partnership for improvement, and supports the consistent delivery of quality care.
Ensures that effective processes are in place to assess practice and work flow related to these initiatives within all interprofessional clinical teams.
Initiates and / or participates in planning processes, including supporting the determination of goals and objectives for nursing within Fraser Health.
Advises and makes recommendations to the Professional Practice Directors regarding trends and opportunities that will help advance nursing practice or maintain sustainability of the nursing workforce.
Identifies risks to practitioners and / or Fraser Health associated with related practices; plans corrective action as required and evaluates outcomes of the actions.
Leads the implementation of change initiatives related to nursing practice; assesses impact and evaluates outcomes. Evaluates auditing tools that provide measurements of patient outcomes, nursing practices and related initiatives;
develops or leads the development of revised or new audit tools, provides feedback to various sites and clinical teams on audit tool effectiveness and results, and develops and implements plans for improvements.
Provides reports, updates and communications to senior leadership, executive sponsors, and Ministry of Health as required.
Provides operational management including recruitment, retention and performance management of staff and budget accountability for the portfolio.
Represents Professional Practice on regional, provincial and external agencies, committees and projects and fosters effective linkages with other organizations.
Qualifications Education and Experience Master's degree in nursing plus a minimum of seven years of recent related experience in a complex health care environment including program planning, education, facilitation and project leadership.
Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Competencies Demonstrates the leadership practices of the Fraser Health Leadership Framework of Clear, Caring and Courageous and creates the conditions for people to succeed.
Professional / Technical Capabilities Comprehensive knowledge of professional practice, nursing regulations and nursing standards, the Health Professions Act and their application across the continuum of care.
Ability to guide and build consensus with interprofessional areas across the organization including physicians, nursing, allied health, pharmacy services.
Advanced competency in project / program implementation, management and evaluation. Understanding of nursing models of care and resource utilization and ability to provide effective recommendations that also ensures quality of care.
Ability to lead organization change. Familiarity with current trends and issues relating to nursing. Ability to develop and evaluate audit tools that provides meaningful feedback to clinical areas.
Ability to identify opportunities that promote improved quality clinical care. Advanced writing skills and ability to articulate changes in policy and guidelines.
Ability to manage staff and budgets effectively. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and related technology.
