Manager of Public Works Operations – District of Squamish
Base pay range : CA$122,490.31 / yr – CA$134,604.73 / yr
As the Manager of Public Works Operations reporting to the Director of Public Works, you will lead the coordination and efficient operation of the Roads & Drainage, Parks, and Fleet teams within the Public Works department. This role is a key member of the leadership team, working closely with leaders across the organization to plan and implement organizational strategy and policies.
Key Responsibilities

- Fosters a culture of feedback, equity, and inclusivity. Fosters effective performance through coaching, development and motivation.
- Prioritizes the safety of all employees by ensuring that WorkSafe BC safety standards and safe work procedures are adhered to; conducts risk management inspections and manages an effective safety-training program.
- Manages the Occupational Health and Safety program for the Roads & Drainage, Parks and Fleet teams.
- Provides leadership, direction, evaluation, and supervision of supervisory and clerical employees; leads the hiring, disciplining, lay‑off and termination of employees.
- Provides technical direction and support to staff through training, sharing knowledge, and helping troubleshoot challenging situations.
- Assists with strategic planning for their portfolio including team structures and teambuilding.
- Researches and develops reports and policies regarding the District’s long‑range operational work for infrastructure management plans.
- Reviews and leads the development or modification of work policies, procedures, standards, specifications and regulations including emergency work forces and equipment.
- Liaises and collaborates with other departments, including in the review of development applications, and provides comment on new for operation and maintenance of assets and infrastructure that will be transferred to District ownership.
- Leads the formulation of the annual operating and capital budgets for their teams and is directly responsible for the management of these budgets.
- Oversees the preparation and administration of tender and contract documents including approving purchase orders, payments and acceptance certificates.
- Attends departmental, management, Council and Committee meetings, as required.
- Fills the role of Acting Director as needed.

Hours of Work : 70 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday. Current shifts (subject to change) range between the hours of 8 : 00am to 5 : 30pm, fortnight schedule.
Salary : Salary range : $122,490.31 - $134,604.73, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
This is an exempt position and is excluded from Union membership.
