We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to be responsible for the preparation of financial reporting for the board and funders of the agency, financial analysis, projection and budget preparation for the agency. To plan, organize and coordinate financial projects to create efficiencies for the Finance department and across the Agency.

Compensation Package:

  • Minimum starting rate of $39.20 per hour; $76,440 annualized.
  • 11 statutory holidays are observed, with public holiday pay.
  • 4% vacation pay paid bi-weekly during probationary period.

Following the successful completion of probation:

Minimum requirements of these positions include:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills combined with ethical judgement.
  • Ability to identify issues and recommend appropriate alternative courses of action.
  • Strong leadership skills, project management skills.
  • Ability to research, identify and implement Accounting best practices within the agency.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with other departments and agencies to facilitate continuous development of effective financial support.
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Not for Profit Accounting Standards, Financial Software and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current valid driver's licence and own reliable transportation to be used in the course of employment.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations and software.

Duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Prepare, monitor and review annual budgets in collaboration with department Manager and Directors.
  • Prepare budgets for submission to funders.
  • Prepare fiscal projections in collaboration with department Managers and Directors.
  • Assist or complete, when required, in the preparation of financial statements for the Board (e.g. Board Reports, AGM reports, etc).
  • Prepare and analyse a variety of reports in collaboration with Finance Manager for submission to funders.
  • Maintain the integrity of the financial data by providing guidance and direction to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare financial analysis, including evaluating proposed operational changes, trends, or significant variances to assess financial implications and provide consultation and advice to Managers and Directors.
  • Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and provide technical direction, training and guidance.
  • Prepare data analysis and complete tasks, as assigned, for year-end audit.
  • Research best practices and identify opportunities for the continuous enhancement of financial reliability and reporting.
  • Assist in or prime the implementation of new processes and/or systems including testing, developing work plans, completing process documentation and evaluating outcomes.
  • Assist in the revision and/or development of agency standards of practice.
  • Maintain an orderly and current filing system (manual and mechanized).
  • Other projects, processes or duties as assigned.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other Agency programs and departments to facilitate continuous development of effective financial supports.
  • Provide orientation in budget preparation and monitoring for agency Directors, Managers and Supervisors.
  • Review and approve the work of the financial services assistants prior to posting and/or uploading to financial systems.
  • Ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislated accounting standards, collective agreements, agency policies and standards of practices; Provide backup for Finance Manager and other financial duties as required.
