Job Title: Lead Avionics, Wiring, and EMC Engineer
Job Description

This role leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers in the design, integration, and certification of aircraft wiring, avionics systems, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and Electrical and Electronic Design Assurance (EEDA). The position sets strategic technical direction for electrical and avionics systems, ensures compliance with global aerospace regulations, and provides subject matter expertise throughout the development and certification lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Define strategic goals for electrical and avionics systems development and ensure they align with overall company objectives.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for aircraft wiring, avionics, EMC, and EEDA, providing strong technical leadership across projects.
  • Oversee the design and integration of aircraft wiring harnesses, connectors, and electrical systems to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Ensure avionics systems, including both software and hardware, comply with relevant regulatory and industry standards.
  • Manage avionics system requirements, architecture, and integration into the broader aircraft systems.
  • Lead efforts to ensure electromagnetic compatibility of avionics and electrical systems, from concept through certification.
  • Oversee EEDA processes to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards such as DO-254, DO-160, ARP4754A, and ARP4761.
  • Ensure that electrical and avionics systems undergo rigorous testing and validation for electrical and electromagnetic performance.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities, including Transport Canada, FAA, and EASA, to support and secure aircraft certification compliance.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and approval of engineering documentation required for certification and validation processes.
  • Ensure all wiring, avionics, and EMC systems meet safety, quality, and airworthiness requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, supply chain, quality assurance, and production to ensure seamless delivery of integrated systems.
  • Work directly with customers to capture requirements and deliver solutions that meet operational and regulatory needs.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining high technical standards and meeting program milestones.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in avionics, wiring, or electrical systems within the aerospace industry.
  • Extensive experience with EMC, EEDA, and regulatory certification processes, including standards such as DO-160 and DO-254.
  • Deep knowledge of avionics systems, wiring design, and system integration in an aerospace context.
  • Familiarity with EMC standards and testing methods applicable to aircraft electrical and avionics systems.
  • Expertise in regulatory frameworks for aircraft electrical systems, including Transport Canada, FAA, and EASA regulations.
  • Experience with design assurance methodologies for avionics, including ARP4754A and ARP4761.
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and guiding complex technical programs.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to translate high-level business and program objectives into clear technical strategies for avionics and electrical systems.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, quality assurance, and production, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Proven capability to prepare and present technical documentation and certification evidence to regulatory authorities.
  • Comfort working closely with customers to understand operational requirements and tailor technical solutions accordingly.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and airworthiness in all aspects of electrical and avionics system development.
Work Environment

The role operates in a professional aerospace engineering environment focused on the development, integration, and certification of advanced avionics and electrical systems. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and interact frequently with certification authorities, customers, and internal stakeholders. The work typically follows standard business hours, with flexibility required at times to meet project deadlines and certification milestones. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a strong emphasis on technical rigor, documentation quality, and adherence to regulatory standards.
