Job description

The Opportunity:

Our commercial team has built something rare: an entrepreneurial culture with deep value for data driven decision making. The next step is matching that culture with a modern analytics foundation — trusted data, governed models, and AI-enabled tools that let the team spend its time on decisions, not data wrangling. This is a build role. You will shape how the commercial team works with data and analytics for years to come — establishing the data products, governance, and self-service capabilities that turn raw information into faster, more confident commercial decisions across pricing, promotions, and business performance.

Any MLF team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by June 08. Applications received beyond that date are not guaranteed consideration.

Reason for vacancy: Incremental Headcount
Compensation: $96, - $, CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Design Scalable Data Models & Modern Analytics: Build the governed data models that power reporting, self-service analytics, and AI-enabled tools across the commercial team. Partner with data engineering and analytics teams to make business-ready data default.
  • Establish Data Governance & Standards: Stand up the governance practices, ownership model, and documentation that make our commercial data trusted, consistent, and accountable.
  • Lead Reporting Strategy & Lifecycle: Rationalize and curate the enterprise reporting environment, retire what isn’t earning its place, and champion adoption of what is.
  • Champion AI-Enabled & Self-Service Analytics: Bring AI agents and self-service tools into the commercial workflow to answer the hard questions instead of wasting time wrangling data.
  • Drive Adoption, Training & Data Literacy: Lead the capability-building work that turns better tools into better decisions — coaching, training, and championing data-driven thinking across the team.
  • Coordinate Analytics Prioritization & Roadmaps: Partner with Sales, Marketing, Finance, and analytics teams to prioritize where we invest, identify data gaps, and keep the work tied to business priorities.

What You’ll Bring:

Experience
  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in analytics, data products, or data governance, including time spent building data models or analytics capabilities in a commercial environment
Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with data modeling, SQL, and Python, working in modern data platforms (Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with semantic layers or modern data modeling frameworks (e.g., dbt) is a strong asset
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power Query, and Power BI
  • Track record implementing data governance practices — definitions, ownership, quality, and lifecycle management
  • Experience integrating data models into AI-enabled and self-service analytics tools
Commercial Skills
  • Strong project and change management instincts; you’ve led capability rollouts, not just delivered them
  • Ability to influence across functions without direct authority — Sales, Marketing, Finance, and analytics partners
  • Communication skills that translate technical work into business value senior leaders can act on
  • Experience with NIQ data and methodologies is preferred
Education
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or related discipline
  • Graduate degree or analytics-related certification is an asset

What We Offer at Maple Leaf Foods:

  • An inclusive company culture and a work environment that keeps our people safe, rewards excellence, and empowers everyone to learn and contribute their best.
  • Competitive Health and Wellness benefits that offer flexibility to meet your individual or family needs, including programs focused on improving mental health and wellbeing. These benefits start on your first day of employment.
  • Defined Contribution Pension Plan with company matching that starts on your first day of employment.
  • Learning and development opportunities, including workshops, ‘speaker series’ events, and resources that allow you to develop your skills and progress your career.
  • Comprehensive tuition reimbursement program that supports continuous learning and development of our team members through investment in eligible degrees, diplomas, professional certification, or trades programs.
  • Supporting our deep commitment to community impact, we offer up to two paid days annually to volunteer at a cause of your choice.
