Job description

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) improve the lives of Nova Scotians with communication disorders by delivering high-quality audiology and speech-language pathology services across the province. Our nationally certified professionals provide integrated, standardized services through 35 clinic sites in 25 communities, supporting approximately 60,000 clinical visits annually. HSNS is proud to hold Accreditation with Excellence from Accreditation Canada, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in client-centered care, safety, and continuous quality improvement.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Provincial Pediatric and Autism Hearing and Speech Services provides senior leadership for provincially delivered pediatric and autism-related hearing and speech services across Nova Scotia.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director contributes to organizational strategy and executive decision-making while providing oversight of programs, services, and partnerships that support accessible, high-quality care for children and families. The role works closely with government and health system partners, including Nova Scotia Health and the IWK, and provides executive oversight of key service agreements, including the Provincial Preschool Autism Service (PPAS).

The Director provides executive leadership for the planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of pediatric and autism hearing and speech services across Nova Scotia. This includes accountability for service quality, safety, access, equity, and outcomes, ensuring alignment with HSNS’s mission, strategic priorities, accreditation standards, and the broader provincial health system.

Within this mandate, the Director provides executive oversight of provincially funded and partner-supported services, including PPAS. The role ensures services are delivered in accordance with established agreements, professional and clinical standards, and reporting expectations, while supporting effective collaboration and integration with partner organizations and aligned services of care.

The Director contributes to the ongoing sustainability and evolution of these services through sound governance, performance oversight, and constructive system partnerships.

The Director is also accountable for workforce leadership, quality improvement, and the responsible stewardship of financial and material resources within a complex, multi-site service delivery environment. Through collaborative leadership, the Director supports organizational stability, continuity of care, and alignment with provincial priorities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•Progressive leadership experience in healthcare service delivery (minimum five years), including responsibility for program or system-level oversight

•Experience in program management, service planning, and continuous quality improvement

•Experience working in a unionized environment, supporting labour relations and collaborative workforce leadership

•Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills

•A master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from an accredited program

•Eligibility for professional licensure in Nova Scotia (audiology or speech-language pathology)

•Completion of a healthcare leadership program and/or a commitment to obtaining the Canadian Health Executive (CHE) designation
