Reporting to the Project Director, Growth Projects, this role supports the delivery of capital projects under the established growth portfolio of projects, a multi-year program executing from 2027 to 2032.

The Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering major metallurgical infrastructure such as boiler installation, furnace installation, or various equipment asset installation projects within a technically complex, operating industrial environment.

Working within a structured project governance framework, the role is accountable for project planning, engineering coordination, contractor management, safety performance, schedule and cost control, and quality assurance.

The role plays a critical part in advancing next-generation metallurgical processing capabilities at Trail Operations, delivering infrastructure that supports future flowsheet development. This includes execution within an active brownfield environment, requiring close coordination with operations, management of shutdowns and tie-ins, and seamless integration with existing systems.

Success in this role requires disciplined execution, strong contractor and stakeholder leadership, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to safely deliver project outcomes within established governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead execution of a $50M–$350M capital project within the Growth Portfolio
  • Deliver across all phases, including pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover
  • Ensure strategic thinking and sound judgement when balancing delivery against safety, scope, cost, schedule, quality, and value objectives

  • Execute work within an active brownfield metallurgical facility, including shutdowns, tie-ins, and system integration
  • Coordinate closely with Trail Operations to minimize production disruption and ensure safe execution

  • Drive alignment across engineering, procurement, construction, and operations
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment aligned with site and portfolio priorities
  • Manage EPC/EPCM contractors and key suppliers with strong commercial discipline; monitor performance, manage contracts, and proactively mitigate risks and issues
  • Operate within a structured stage-gate governance framework; provide regular reporting on project performance, risks, and key decisions to the Project Director, and support preparation of materials for governance reviews and investment decisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10–15+ years of experience in capital project delivery within heavy industrial environments
  • Proven track record executing large capital projects ($50M–$350M) with accountability for execution outcomes
  • Demonstrated brownfield experience in operating industrial facilities (required)
  • Experience in smelting, refining, milling, or complex metallurgical processing environments
  • Direct experience with installation or major upgrades of Metallurgical boilers, Furnace systems (e.g., smelters, roasters, kilns, or similar high-temperature processing equipment) or Hydrometallurgical operating assets
  • Experience leading coordination across engineering, contractors, consultants, and operations teams
  • Strong understanding of project governance, stage-gate processes, and capital delivery frameworks
  • Proven experience in commercial and contractual management
  • Solid understanding and practical application of “fit-for-purpose” design and “value engineering” principles to optimize capital efficiency while maintaining safety, reliability, and performance
