Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent - Production with a competitive base salary between $,.00 - $,.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications, with an additional short term incentive of 20%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Purpose of the Role

The Production Superintendent is responsible for the management of processing operation enhancement and uplift at the Red Chris Mine site operations. The areas of focus include Fatal Risk Management, Full Potential, Expansion Operational Readiness, Long Term Planning and Readiness, Geo-Metallurgy Oversight, Coordination with Function and Corporate Support Streams, Project Engineering and Optimising Connectivity between Operations and Metallurgy Streams. The major challenge for the Production Superintendent is to manage a diverse range of key site technical and operational processes. Carry responsibility for work programs to support safe long term processing operations through optimisation and development of strategies & plans, enhancing the value of the Life of Mine for Ore Processing. Particular emphasis on optimising plans for operations through transitional feed sources (open pit – stockpile – block cave) and integration of new plant and infrastructure through these transitions.

Responsibilities

Health & Safety (20%)

  • Support the safe performance of the Ore Processing Department and role model the behaviors and practices to deliver the Fatality Risk Management program in full. Optimize practices to ensure the ‘Tools’ within the FRM program are fully implemented (PSM, JHA, Permitting, Hazard Identification, Shift handovers) and ensure safety practices and procedures are implemented, maintained, and followed to minimize the risk associated with the working environment of the Ore Processing department to employees and contractors and to comply with statutory obligations.
  • Monitor all incident and accident statistics and align with FRM findings to ensure a proactive safety maturity is established. This will include ensuring that all training is up-to-date and implemented in a timely manner, and FRM action outcomes are actioned to ensure sustainable uplift.
  • Leadership in Risk Identification processes and supports in the development of STP’s / SOP’s / JHA’s as required for safe work execution. Ownership and ongoing refinement of the authorization to work program for site

Operational Excellence & Growth (40%)

  • Review and report on the activities of the Ore Processing Department to ensure adherence to plan, and the timely and accurate provision of information to the Mill Manager and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that Departmental strategic plans, and capital budgets are developed, implemented and executed in the most cost effective manner and are in line with site strategic objectives and the life of mill operation, and develop longer term capital pipeline.
  • Ensure accuracy of plan and scenario generation (inputs, process and outputs) but at the same time demonstrate creativity and innovation when considering options and synergies through a high awareness of globally applicable solutions, technology and innovation
  • Interface between operations and maintenance planning / reliability / execution for all mill shutdowns to enable operations and metallurgy to remain primarily focused on operation optimization for all periods of run time
  • Maintain and improve the Ore Processing Management Operating System (MOS) to ensure that clearly defined processes are functional and maintained to manage risks and opportunities, incorporating broader support function integration with maintenance planning, execution and reliability
  • Department contact and responsible for proactively managing all block cave Ph0 – Ph3 project integration activities including establishing and supporting operational readiness and the department point of contact for commissioning planning and execution
  • Develop and optimize safety and performance of business partners associated with mill operations, not limited to Arrow concentrate haulage, Arrow & MolyCop grinding media partnership, reagents delivery providers
  • Oversee the provision of high quality geo-metallurgical services to the Red Chris open pit to stockpile to block cave operation to ensure an acceptable level of safety and full achievement of the LOM potential.
  • Be accountable for approval of purchases and expenditure within the delegated limits of authority.
  • Environment, Social, Governance (10%)

  • Understand and manage compliance with B.C. Provincial Law on Safety and Health at Work, B.C. Provincial Regulations of Mining Safety and Health, internal manuals, procedures and standards as well as Newmont and Red Chris Operational and strategic Management Plans.
  • Address gaps in above regulatory governance for the department
  • Comply with all reasonable and lawful instructions that are consistent with the contract of employment and ensure departmental compliance with all applicable statutory and Newmont standards and guidelines.
  • People (10%)

  • Provide input / informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to the ore processing leadership, and site management team.
  • Provide leadership, through coaching, mentoring, and support for professional development activities, to members of the Ore Processing Department, to foster a positive workplace that reflects Newmont values and the development of high performing teams.
  • Financial Health (20%)

  • Champion Full Potential Delivery in the department and perform as the primary liaison with the OSN and SME’s. Develop regular engagements and leverage opportunity between corporate support and the operation (both operations & metallurgy)
  • Ensure that ore processing plans for the LOM are practical, achievable, compliant with internal and external guidelines, agreed scopes of work, and in line with the strategic objectives of the Company to maximize Net present Value of the Red Chris operation through its variance ore feed transitions.
  • Life of Mine (LOM) support in terms of long and medium term ore processing planning

    About You

    Position requirements include, but are not limited to :

    Knowledge :

  • University Qualified in Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Experience :

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years ore processing technical experience, preferably with some experience in a similar scale large tonnage copper / gold operation.
  • Preferably with training in project management : PMI, IPMA or similar.
  • Experience working in full production value stream development (i.e. Mine / Mill / TSF) and with Geo-metallurgy
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Proficient in reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preferred previous supervisory experience with demonstrated positive and effective leadership of large technical teams and across various workgroups.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of key Metallurgical principles for ore processing projects.
  • A strong desire to expand and apply technical knowledge in the continuous improvement of the operation, linking operation and metallurgy teams together to optimise their collective depth
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to persuade, involve and lead a diverse multi-functioned group of stakeholders to ensure short term and long term operational objectives are achieved in an efficient manner for an optimal solution
  • A proven history in delivering results to schedule and budget while having demonstrated a proactive commitment to a safe working environment
  • Previous leadership skills with a multidisciplinary and cross-functional workforce.
  • Sound verbal communication skills, including listening, consultation and negotiation.
  • Excellent prioritization and problem solving skills.
  • Good delegation and personnel management skills.
  • Highly motivated to work with other departments. Communicating and resolving issues to achieve maximum head grade within other operational constraints
  • Ability to manage and motivate personnel as part of a professional, technical team
  • High level of written communication skills, including report writing and interpretation of technical data.
