Job Description

Description

Your role at GEI.

GEI is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Civil Engineering Interns to join our team in 2026. Under the guidance of senior engineers, interns will support a wide range of projects across municipal infrastructure, land development, linear infrastructure, and infrastructure planning.

This is a great opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and gain exposure to various aspects of civil engineering practice.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist in the development of civil engineering designs for municipal linear infrastructure (watermains, sanitary sewers, forcemains, storm sewers, outfalls, and roads).
  • Support site civil design activities, including grading, yard piping, and access planning.
  • Contribute to planning and analysis work, including hydraulic modeling, servicing studies, and infrastructure planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across environmental, geotechnical, and planning disciplines.
  • Support the preparation of reports, plans, technical memos, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with area servicing plans, master planning, and other infrastructure planning initiatives.
  • Provide general support to other Civil, Land Development, Structural, and Water / Wastewater teams as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current enrolment in a Civil Engineering program at an accredited university.
  • Interest in civil design, infrastructure planning, and municipal engineering projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroStation, or GIS software (ArcMap / QGIS) is an asset.
  • Motivation to learn, broaden experience, and develop engineering knowledge.
  • Physical and environmental requirements for this position are available upon request.
