Job description

HireArt is helping our client find a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer to standardize testing methodologies and ensure repeatable, accurate assessment of sensor degradation across a range of weather conditions.

In this role, you’ll lead the technical execution of wind tunnel testing to evaluate how environmental factors, specifically wind and rain, impact sensor performance. Your work will directly support the development of robust sensing systems for real-world autonomous operation.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on test engineer with a strong foundation in fluid mechanics who enjoys designing experiments, building test infrastructure, and translating complex data into actionable insights.

As a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer, you'll:

• Lead the development, build-out, validation, troubleshooting, and support of wind tunnel–based test setups in lab and production environments.
• Define, document, and refine standardized test procedures, work instructions, and process workflows.
• Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure test strategies support product development, manufacturability, and system validation goals.
• Interpret and follow electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions to support test execution.
• Assist with the assembly and repair of wiring harnesses and related test hardware as needed.
• Travel between work sites to support testing, setup, and development activities.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant experience in aerodynamic testing, experimental fluid mechanics, or automotive environmental testing
• (A master’s degree with a focus on experimental fluid dynamics may be considered in lieu of professional experience)
• Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, including boundary layer flows and multiphase flow phenomena (e.g., liquid–gas interaction, droplet breakup, trajectory, and surface wetting)
• Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and document standardized test procedures, including complex experimental setups and test matrices
• Hands-on experience with wind tunnel instrumentation such as pressure transducers, anemometers, and water spray/nozzle systems

Bonus Qualifications:

• Industry experience in applied fluid mechanics within automotive, autonomous driving, or aerospace environments
• Proficiency in image processing techniques using Python, OpenCV, or MATLAB for characterizing droplet size, distribution, and velocity
• Experience with PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) or similar optical diagnostic methods for airflow and spray analysis
• Experience using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) to design custom fixtures or wind tunnel models
• Experience with data acquisition systems (e.g., IPETronik) and data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW
