Job description

HireArt is helping our client find a Brake Performance Engineer to support the development and validation of braking systems for advanced vehicle platforms.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and validating vehicle-level brake performance, ensuring braking systems deliver optimal safety, comfort, and reliability across a range of driving conditions.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong experience in brake system development, vehicle testing, and data-driven performance analysis. You are comfortable working at the intersection of hardware, controls, and vehicle dynamics.

As a Brake Performance Engineer, you'll:
  • Develop and optimize brake performance and braking comfort at the vehicle level.
  • Test and refine the interaction between brake and drivetrain actuators to ensure coordinated system performance.
  • Develop and track performance metrics and targets for vehicle-level braking behavior.
  • Translate vehicle-level performance targets into system and component requirements.
  • Develop and refine testing methodologies to improve validation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support simulation development used to predict vehicle braking performance.
  • Implement innovative technical solutions that enable optimal brake system performance.
  • Execute vehicle-level validation testing.
  • Lead data analysis and root cause investigations for braking performance issues.
  • Monitor fleet performance using operational dashboards and performance metrics.
  • Lead and report on FMVSS-related braking tests.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or automotive engineering
  • 5+ years of automotive or related brake development and vehicle testing experience
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic braking systems and/or electromechanical braking systems, including controllers and stability functions
  • Familiarity with vehicle dynamics across different surface conditions
  • Ability to conduct vehicle testing at or near the physical limits of the vehicle
  • Experience with vehicle-level and bench-level brake integration
  • Hands-on experience working with vehicles, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
  • Familiarity with FMVSS-related braking tests
  • Experience with brake performance tools and software such as CANalyzer, INCA, MDA, MATLAB/Simulink, or Racelogic VBOX
  • Experience using ticketing or issue-tracking systems
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the continental United States (including CA, AZ, MI, OH, and MN)

Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) Subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.
