Job description
Part-Time After-School Caregiver
Location : Bedford, Nova Scotia
Schedule : Tuesday–Thursday, 2 : 30 pm – 5 : 30 pm
Start Date : As soon as a suitable candidate is found
Type : Live-out, part-time employee
We are a calm and organised family seeking a reliable and experienced caregiver to support our two boys, aged 11 and 9, in our home after school.
This is a structured, hands-on role requiring attentiveness, maturity, and confidence with physical care and supervision.
Role Overview
Older child (11) :
Meet the school bus outside the apartment building and escort him safely inside
Assist with safe transfers and repositioning after school
Support with feeding, including oral and PEG feeding
Provide personal and continence care
Monitor comfort and respond appropriately to fatigue or distress
Maintain a calm and safe environment
Younger child (9) :
Supervision and structured check-ins after school
Prepare snack or light meal if needed
Support homework completion
Provide calm presence while he engages in independent activities
General Responsibilities :
Maintain a safe and settled after-school routine
Light housekeeping related to the children
Prepare simple snacks or meals as needed
Afternoons are generally calm once routines are established.
Requirements
Experience supporting children with additional or complex needs
Comfortable with hands-on personal care, PEG feeding, and transfers
Physically able to perform manual handling safely
Valid CPR and First Aid certification
Current Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
Professional references
Non-smoker
Legal eligibility to work in Canada
A hoist is available in the home. Training can be provided for equipment use.
Compensation
20–$26 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Paid hourly as an employee via direct deposit.
Successful candidates will be required to complete employment paperwork and payroll documentation prior to commencing work.
