Position Overview
We are seeking a warm, experienced, and highly capable House Assistant to support a busy family of five. This is a dynamic household with a toddler requiring attentive daily care alongside two active teenagers. The ideal candidate brings professional housekeeping standards, confident childcare experience across a wide age range, and genuine skill in the kitchen — including familiarity with East Asian and Eastern European cuisines. This position is full-time, live-out with regular work hours between 12pm and 8pm Monday - Friday. Some flexibility is required for occasional evenings and weekend support.
Childcare Responsibilities
Toddler Care (Pre-kindergardner) — Primary Focus
• Provide attentive, nurturing supervision and care during working hours
• Maintain a safe, stimulating, and tidy play environment at all times
• Manage bedtime or nap routines when required during shift hours
Teenager Support
• Provide supervision and a supportive presence after school hours
• Assist with after-school snacks and light meal preparation
• Occasional driving to activities if license held (asset, not required)
• Respect appropriate boundaries while maintaining household standards
• Communicate with principals if concerns arise regarding the teenagers
Meal Preparation and Kitchen
Meal preparation is a cornerstone of this role. The House Assistant will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, family-appropriate meals and snacks daily.
Daily Meal Duties
• Prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for all family members during shift hours
• Plan weekly menus in consultation with family principals
• Prepare toddler meals with attention to texture, nutrition, and portion size
• Provide after-school snacks suitable for teenagers’ appetite and preferences
• Prepare and portion family dinner ready for serving by end of shift
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen after every meal preparation
Cuisine Competencies
• General proficiency in everyday family cooking (preferred)
• East Asian cuisine — including dishes such as stir-fries, rice dishes, soups, and dumplings (strong asset)
• Eastern European cuisine — including dishes such as borscht, pierogies, stuffed cabbage, and roasted meats (strong asset)
• Ability to accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions as directed by principals
Kitchen & Pantry Management
• Maintain organized pantry, refrigerator, and freezer inventory
• Prepare weekly grocery lists and submit to principals for approval
• Manage grocery procurement as directed (in-store or delivery coordination)
• Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation to minimize waste
Housekeeping Responsibilities
Daily Tasks
• Daily light housekeeping: tidying living areas, making beds, vacuuming high-traffic areas
• Full kitchen cleaning after each meal preparation and at end of shift
• Maintaining tidy and organized children’s areas, playroom, and toddler’s bedroom
• Wiping down surfaces, sanitizing bathrooms, and spot-cleaning throughout the day
Laundry & Linen
• Regular laundry for the full household, including sorting, washing, drying, and folding
• Ironing or steaming as required for adults’ clothing and household linens
• Changing and laundering bed linens on a scheduled rotation
• Toddler clothing and bedding managed with appropriate detergents and care
Household Organization & Administration
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, household consumables, and groceries
• Ensure household security protocols are followed at all times
• Answer the door, receive packages, and handle basic household errands
• Sort and correctly dispose of recycling, compost, and garbage per local guidelines
• Report maintenance issues or household needs promptly to principals
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
Experience & Skills
• Minimum 3 years of professional housekeeping or house assistant experience in a private residence
• Demonstrated experience caring for toddlers (age 2–4) in a professional or family setting
• Comfortable and skilled working with children across a broad age range
• Strong cooking skills with proven ability to prepare family meals from scratch
• Excellent laundry skills including handling of delicate fabrics and household linens

Requirements
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must be comfortable lifting 30 lbs
• Clear background and reference checks required
• Valid driver’s license is a significant asset
• First Aid / CPR certification is an asset (toddler CPR preferred)
