Job Details

Foothills School division (FSD) is currently seeking a Family School Liaison Counsellor (FSLC). FSLCs may work across several schools in the division and with students and families from the K-12 grade levels. School assignments are determined on a yearly basis and are dependent on school need.

As a collaborative team member, FSLCs work with a variety of school-based personnel and other service providers to support students and families. Under the supervision of the School Principals and the Counselling Coordinator, FSLCs work together with families/guardians, outside agencies and school staff to help students meet their social-emotional, behavioural and learning goals at school. As part of the school based team (SBT), FSLCs:

  • Consult with school personnel to determine a plan for counselling interventions, capacity building sessions and/or consultations as required
  • Utilize a cognitive-based model in providing brief counselling to students
  • Will share student and family information within the collaborative problem solving team model as required
  • Link student/family and educators to appropriate resources as necessary
  • Provide preventative, proactive and early intervention plans as well as capacity building opportunities
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop intervention plans
  • Work with students and families to provide a continuum of support
  • Work to build collaborative partnerships between organizations, institutions and systems relevant to child, youth and family well-being
  • Assess and respond to crisis and threats that affect students, staff and the school community as part of the CSTAG and/or Critical Response Team
  • Keep current statistics on student interventions and work alongside the Counselling Coordinator in preparing and presenting funding proposal requests
  • Coordinate and implement groups for identified students with specified emotional, social and behavioural needs

This position follows the schedule of the 10-month school calendar for approximately 40 hours per week. It is a permanent position commencing at the beginning of the 2025/26 school year.

Qualifications:

Bachelor or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Counselling Psychology or Social Work. A related field may be considered. Eligibility for registration with a recognized designated governing body is required.

We appreciate and consider all applications, but only those applicants selected for further consideration will be contacted.
