About Working on a “Floatel”

LandSea will be providing workforce catering and accommodation services for guests onboard the MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger “Floatel”. At work, the crew is provided with accommodation, full meals, and WIFI, and can access health/gym facilities when off work. We provide partial uniforms and help with the travel/reservations as needed to and from locations. Excellent Health and Wellness benefits are being offered.

Union Status and Collective Agreement

• Your position is unionized and falls within the bargaining unit represented by UNITE HERE! Local 40. The terms and conditions of your employment, including wages, hours of work, and working conditions—are governed entirely by the prevailing Memorandum of Agreement (“MOA”) between Landsea and the Union.
• Your base salary will be $26.69/hour. You will also receive overtime pay paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 hours/week. There will be rotating shifts, and variable start times. You will be entitled to 10 days of paid holiday (or 4% of gross salary). Your compensation strictly complies with the UNITE HERE! Local 40 wage scale for this classification.

About the Opportunity

We currently have ONE opening for Baker. This Baker is responsible for producing both scratch and prefabricated baked goods, desserts and pastries. Working under the guidance of the Chef, you will be expected to produce both high quality and high quantity products within the Bakery Department. This position requires the ability to follow directions, be diligent, focused and consistent. Comfort with kitchen and pastry equipment is required.

Applicants must have minimum 2 years’ experience in a hotel or cruise ship and must have the ability to work long shifts, weekends, holidays in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Available to work multiple rotations. Must have good verbal and written communication skills (read, write, and speak English). Meticulous attention to detail and well-developed organizational skills. Strong work ethic with an ability to work independently, and as a team player who supports, motivates, and encourages others.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Bakes and prepares a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes, such as cookies, tarts, squares, muffins, cupcakes and other pastry items
• Produces featured desserts daily, hot or cold, as well as grab and go desserts such as parfaits, tiramisu, Jello, puddings, cakes and crumbles
• Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
• Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, etc.
• Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, etc.
• Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives
• Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
• Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
• Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
• Enforces and upholds LandSea policies and procedures
• Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of High School, GED, or related area
• Must hold a valid food safety certificate.
• Must provide at least 2 professional work references.
• Must provide photo identification (PDF of photo ID) to verify identity during virtual interview.

Physical Requirements

• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for long periods.
• Repeat the same movements including fast, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.

• Use hands to handle objects and tools.
• Must be able to complete 12-hour shift

Certifications and other requirements

• All crew members onboard the MV Isabelle must have the minimum marine safety (Seafarers) certifications required by Transport Canada for the specific job.

• MED STCW Survival Craft
• Passenger Safety Management
• Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test before hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
• WHMIS 2015
• Valid Government Issued Identification
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian, PR Status, or valid Work Permit)
• Criminal Record Check
• Able to work the night shift.
• Available to work multiple rotations including 21-7, 2-2, 4-2, etc.

The pay range for this position is $26.69 - $26.69.
