This role is a key component of the BI Enablement project, focused on building enterprise-grade analytics solutions that bridge the gap between complex data platforms and business decision-makers. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of BI development—from data modeling and semantic layer design to high-impact dashboard creation—specifically focusing on migrating legacy MicroStrategy reports to Microsoft Power BI.

Duration: 12-month contract

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days onsite)

Rate: $65.12-$71.51/hr

Advantages
High-Visibility Impact: Influence the reporting standards for one of North America’s largest systems.

Cutting-Edge Tech: Gain deep, hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, the newest evolution in Microsoft's data and analytics ecosystem.

Complex Migrations: Lead a significant architectural shift from MicroStrategy to Power BI, a highly sought-after expertise in the current market.

Balanced Environment: Benefit from a hybrid model that blends the collaboration of a Toronto-based team with the flexibility of remote work.

Responsibilities
Solution Design & Development
Enterprise Reporting: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Power BI dashboards and reports for critical business areas including SAP Finance, HR, Payroll, Maximo, and VISION.

Semantic Layer Mastery: Build and document robust Power BI semantic layers and schemas to ensure data consistency and accuracy across self-serve analytics modules.

Platform Modernization: Lead the migration of legacy reporting from MicroStrategy 2020+ to the Microsoft Power BI ecosystem.

Modeling & Datasets: Model complex data structures and create optimized datasets using Microsoft Fabric tools, Lakehouse, and Dataflows Gen2.

Microsoft Fabric & Advanced Analytics
Notebook Development: Write scalable Python/Spark code within Fabric Notebooks for ETL, data validation, and feature engineering.

Data Pipelines: Configure and manage Fabric items and pipelines to handle data ingestion, transformation, and scheduling across the enterprise data platform.

Deployment Management: Implement and administer Power BI environments, including the setup of deployment pipelines and workspace governance.

Collaboration & Delivery
Technical Specifications: Convert complex business requirements into detailed technical design documents and functional specifications.

Stakeholder Support: Act as a subject matter expert to support end-users with Power BI self-serve analytics and provide BI tool training.

Documentation: Create project artifacts according to Project Management Office (PMO) standards, including data models and knowledge transfer summaries.

Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Business Intelligence Developer, with extensive experience in large-scale enterprise environments.

Mandatory Certification: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) is required.

Technical Stack:

Primary: Microsoft Power BI, Azure Synapse, SQL Server 2019+.

Advanced: Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Notebooks, PySpark), Python for ETL.

Legacy (Asset): MicroStrategy 2020 or later.

Data Modeling: Expert understanding of star schemas, snowflake schemas, and data warehousing interfacing.

Education: University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Compliance: Knowledge of (or ability to rapidly acquire) the Ontario Human Rights Code and AODA accessibility requirements for digital reporting.

Deliverables
Finance & HR Analytics: Self-serve dashboards for SAP Finance, Payroll, HR, and legacy payroll systems.

Operational Reporting: Attendance, Vacancy, and Absenteeism reporting combining multiple data streams.

Migration Portfolio: Successfully migrated reports from MicroStrategy to the Power BI platform.

Training Materials: BI tool documentation and training sessions for business users.

Technical Specs: Detailed semantic layer documentation and data lineage maps.

Summary
If you are a Power BI expert with a passion for data storytelling and a desire to work at the forefront of the Microsoft Fabric revolution, we encourage you to apply today!
