This Position reports to:

Application Manager

As an Application Specialist you will have the opportunity to support the Sales organization and customers throughout the sales process by adapting ABB's Critical Power products with customer applications to meet their requirements and specifications. Each day, you will select optimized UPS, Static Transfer Switch (STS), Power Distribution Unit (PDU), and related power protection solutions for adaptation, prepare relevant technical documentation (one-line diagrams, specifications, BOMs), and serve as a key technical resource for the assigned area. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying and cultivating new business opportunities by proactively prospecting, networking, and engaging with consulting engineers, EPCs, and end-users in the data center, healthcare, and critical infrastructure segments.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid.

This role is contributing to the Smart Power – Critical Power Business in Canada.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Developing and implementing power protection solutions and technical packages (system engineering designs, configurations, specifications and product selection) with the Sales team to meet customer requirements and project timelines.

  • Analyzing customer needs, requirements, and project constraints; effectively communicating the ability of ABB's Critical Power solutions to address those needs while ensuring compliance with CSA, UL, and other relevant standards.

  • Coordinating technical product demonstrations and presentations to showcase the value and benefits of ABB's UPS, STS, PDU, and related solutions to consulting engineers, contractors, and end-users.

  • Supporting the Sales team in reviewing project specification documents, preparing sales proposals, technical specifications, and pricing strategies to secure new business and establish ABB as the preferred manufacturer on customer Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs) and project specifications.

  • You will mainly support the Application Sales Manager, Regional Sales team, Global Product Management team, Application Engineering community, and customers, external and internal channel partners in mission-critical infrastructure sectors (data centers, hospitals, government, industrial, and commercial buildings).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a strong foundation in electrical systems, power distribution, and power supply design.

  • Ability to demonstrate 3–5 years of working experience in the electrical distribution, power protection, or critical power infrastructure industry, ideally with direct exposure to UPS systems, Static Transfer Switches (STS), Power Distribution Units (PDU), or related mission-critical equipment or applications.

  • Possess an enhanced knowledge of performing engineering calculations (battery autonomy sizing, cable sizing, fault level analysis, load flow analysis) and are familiar with and working experience with electrical standards including CSA, NEC, UL, ANSI, NEMA, and IEEE applicable in North America

  • You possess real-world knowledge of supporting critical infrastructure projects in sectors such as data centers, hospitals, industrial, commercial, and government facilities, with demonstrated ability to understand complex customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • You are passionate about technical problem-solving, innovation, and customer success; you demonstrate strong communication skills, self-initiative, and a sense of ownership in delivering high-quality engineering designs and documentation.

  • You are passionate about developing engineering technical solutions to challenging requirements and bringing innovative approaches to the team.

  • Field service or installation experience

  • with critical power equipment is highly preferred, demonstrating hands-on knowledge of UPS systems, battery technologies, switchgear, and power distribution infrastructure.

  • Current or pending Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with a Canadian provincial engineering body is an asset.

Why ABB?

We empower you to take initiative, challenge ideas, and lead with confidence. You’ll grow through meaningful work, continuous learning, and support that’s tailored to your goals.
