Job description

Field Service Technician — Mobile Elevating Work Platforms

St. Catharines, Ontario · Niagara Region & Golden Horseshoe territory Full-time, permanent This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Your shop has four wheels and no ceiling.

Some technicians spend fifteen years staring at the same three bay doors. This isn't that job.

Norvex is hiring a Field Service Technician to cover St. Catharines and the surrounding Niagara region. You get a service truck, a territory, and the trust to run your own day. You pull up to a site where a boom lift is down and a crew is standing around waiting on you. You chase the fault ; hydraulics, electrical, controls, engine, whatever it turns out to be — you fix it, and you leave with the machine back in the air.

Then you do it again somewhere new.

If that sounds better than a punch clock and a queue of repair orders, keep reading.

What's in it for you

A service truck — fully equipped, yours for the work. No hauling gear around in your own pickup.

A competitive hourly rate, based on what you actually bring to the truck. We'll talk numbers openly on the first call.

Specialized tools provided. You're not buying $4,000 of diagnostic gear out of your own pocket.

Work clothing provided, including what you need to stay safe and visible on site.

Comprehensive group health, dental and vision benefits for you and your family.

Employer-contributed pension plan. Money going into your retirement, not just yours.

Paid ongoing training — manufacturer courses, certifications, Working at Heights, the lot. Specialized equipment means specialized skills, and we invest in them.

A team that picks up the phone. Technical advisors who back you up, a shop that respects field techs, and no politics.

What your week actually looks like

You'll be servicing, diagnosing and repairing elevating equipment — boom lifts, scissor lifts, mobile elevating work platforms and telehandlers — on customer sites across the Niagara region.

That means troubleshooting across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems, often on the same machine, often with the clock running. It means performing safety inspections to OHSA and CSA B354 standards, and being the person whose signature means the machine is genuinely safe to put a worker on.

It also means documenting your work properly, coordinating with the technical advisors so nothing falls through the cracks between visits, and representing Norvex well when you're the only person from the company a customer sees all year.

What you bring

A mechanical trade background. In Ontario, that usually looks like one of these:

  • An Ontario College Certificate or Diploma in heavy equipment technology, industrial mechanics, electromechanical or mechanical engineering technology
  • A Certificate of Qualification or apprenticeship in a related trade — 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, 425A Agricultural Equipment Technician, 433A Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), 442A Industrial Electrician, or 310T Truck and Coach Technician
  • Or an equivalent combination of training and hands-on experience that got you to the same place. Trained abroad or came up through the shop floor? Apply. We assess skills, not paperwork.

Real experience maintaining and repairing mobile, industrial or heavy equipment.

Diagnostic instinct. The ability to read a symptom, form a theory, test it, and not just replace parts until something works.

A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and a clean driver's abstract.

Self-direction. Nobody is standing over your shoulder in the field. That's the appeal — and the requirement.

Customer sense. You can explain to a site supervisor what went wrong and what you did about it, without condescension and without jargon.

Nice to have, not required

Experience with aerial work platforms, scissor lifts or telehandlers is a real asset. So is a Working at Heights certification, a DZ licence, or hydraulic systems training. If you don't have them, we'll get you there.

What we're actually screening for is simpler: reliable, technical, and motivated to build genuine expertise in a specialized field.

Interested?

You want a field role where you're autonomous, properly equipped, and recognized for what you know.

We want to talk to you.

Apply now — or reach out with questions before you do. Either is fine.

Norvex is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and are committed to an inclusive, barrier-free recruitment process. Accommodations are available on request at any stage of the hiring process under the Ontario Human Rights Code and the AODA — just let us know what you need.
