Job description

Job Description

Our client, Waycon Manufacturing Ltd., based in Penticton, BC, is a leading industrial equipment and machinery manufacturer serving clients across North America. Known for delivering high-quality, custom-built solutions, they support a wide range of industries from a two-acre facility equipped with advanced in-house machinery, state-of-the-art tooling, and cutting-edge engineering technology. Their capabilities span concept design, CNC machining, fabrication, welding, painting, assembly, and testing.

They are seeking an Estimator Draftsperson to play a key role in connecting client requirements with engineering, estimating, and production. This position combines technical drafting, project estimating, and client relationship management, making it an ideal opportunity for an experienced industrial professional who understands both the technical and commercial sides of custom manufacturing.

Working closely with clients, engineers, and production teams, you will help move projects from the initial client conversation through estimating and into manufacturing. This is not an entry-level position and is best suited to someone with strong industry experience, excellent attention to detail, and an understanding of what it takes to accurately estimate and deliver custom industrial projects. Existing relationships and contacts within mining, forestry, energy, automation, or other industrial sectors will be considered a significant asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed project cost estimates based on drawings, material requirements, production scope, and project specifications;
  • Manage quotes from preparation through follow-up, ensuring they are accurate, competitive, and completed within required timelines;
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a knowledgeable technical point of contact throughout the quoting and project process;
  • Prepare and maintain accurate manufacturing drawings for machining and fabrication projects;
  • Work closely with engineers to support drawing revisions, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation;
  • Liaise with engineering, production, and management to ensure estimates reflect accurate costs, practical production requirements, and achievable timelines;
  • Maintain drawing, estimating, and document control standards;
  • Support the team in identifying opportunities and developing relationships with clients across key industrial sectors.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in machinery, equipment manufacturing, custom fabrication, or a related industrial environment;
  • Proven experience preparing project estimates and detailed costings from drawings, specifications, and project scope;
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and technical drafting within a manufacturing environment;
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma or related qualification, or equivalent demonstrated industry experience;
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and production requirements;
  • Existing industry contacts within mining, forestry, energy, automation, or other industrial sectors across BC, Alberta, or beyond would be a significant asset;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to read and interpret complex engineering specifications;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, engineers, production teams, and management;
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how accurate estimating and responsive client service contribute to winning and delivering work.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of $85,000–$110,000+, dependent on experience and qualifications;
  • Comprehensive dental and health insurance coverage;
  • Allowances for boots and personal protective equipment;
  • Opportunities for overtime and professional development;
  • Full-time hours with a focus on work-life balance;
  • Long-term career opportunity with a stable, forward-thinking manufacturer.

Your total compensation package will reflect your experience, industry knowledge, and the value you bring to the role. Candidates with strong technical expertise, industry relationships, and a proven ability to accurately estimate and support industrial projects will have the opportunity to earn at the higher end of the range.

If you are an experienced Estimator Draftsperson with strong technical skills, industry knowledge, and a practical understanding of manufacturing, we would love to hear from you. This is an opportunity to take on a key role within a growing manufacturer where your expertise will directly contribute to the success of projects from initial concept through to production.
