Job descriptionFacilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons React quickly to threats or incidents Check the proper functioning of alarms and cameras Document incidents and actions taken Respond to alarms and conduct on-site checks Collaborate with law enforcement during serious incidents Conduct excessive foot patrols (interior / exterior) of sensitive areas to spot any suspicious activity Respond to tenant requests Emergency Response Monitor closed circuit cameras Remove unauthorized individuals React quickly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations Utilize conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English for clear and calm interactions Provide a visible security presence on all floors of the Library and Skywalk during operational hours Control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors Offer site information and directions to the public, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor Collaborate effectively with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe and welcoming environment Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking / unlocking doors, elevators, and rooms, and activating / deactivating alarm systems Maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences Be authorized to work in Canada Hold a valid Manitoba security license First aid certification an asset Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance Ability to stand and walk for the entire shift Good verbal and written communication skills First Aid training (an asset) Physically and mentally fit to perform duties Tactical experience (asset) Good with technology
