Job description

Build, Improve, and Own the Technology Behind a Growing Business

Looking for a Systems Administrator role where you can work with a variety of technologies, solve real problems, and keep building your skills?

Our client is a well-established North American organization with more than 35 years of growth and multiple locations across the region. They're looking for a hands-on Systems Administrator to join their IT team and help keep their systems reliable, secure, and running smoothly.

You'll work across Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell, virtualization, networking, backups, and monitoring, while also getting involved in infrastructure projects, automation, upgrades, and day-to-day technical support.

💻 Who You Are:

  • You're the person people rely on when something goes beyond a basic IT issue
  • You enjoy getting to the root of a problem rather than simply applying a temporary fix
  • You're comfortable working across servers, systems, networks, applications, and users, and you know how to balance technical priorities with the needs of the business
  • You take ownership of the systems you manage
  • You're hands-on, curious, and naturally inclined to ask: “How can we make this work better?”

📍 Work Type

  • Location: Brampton, ON (Fully On-site – 5 days a week in office)
  • Vacancy Type: This role is an existing vacancy

Requirements

🎯 What You'll Do:

  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments, ensuring availability, performance, patching, and operational stability
  • Manage Active Directory, including users, groups, permissions, organizational units, and Group Policy
  • Maintain core network services including DNS and DHCP, and troubleshoot authentication and connectivity issues
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate provisioning, administration, monitoring, reporting, and other repetitive tasks
  • Support and troubleshoot VMware and/or Hyper-V environments, including virtual machine deployment, configuration, maintenance, and performance
  • Monitor infrastructure, identify potential issues proactively, and respond to system alerts and performance concerns
  • Manage and troubleshoot backup and recovery processes, investigate backup failures, and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure and connectivity issues involving TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and related technologies
  • Provide escalation-level support for complex systems and infrastructure issues
  • Support endpoint, hardware, and software deployments across the organization
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, technology deployments, and other IT projects
  • Apply security best practices across systems, access, patching, configuration, and infrastructure management
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, procedures, and operational runbooks
  • Work with technology vendors and internal stakeholders to investigate and resolve infrastructure issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, security, performance, and efficiency of the IT environment

⭐ What We're Looking For (Our Wishlist):

  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Administration or a closely related infrastructure role, with hands-on responsibility for supporting production IT environments
  • Proven experience administering Windows Server environments, including configuration, patching, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Strong experience with Active Directory and Group Policy, including user and group administration, permissions, organizational units, and policy-based configuration
  • Practical experience administering Microsoft 365, including user and license management, Exchange Online, identity and access, and troubleshooting core M365 services
  • Solid understanding of DNS and DHCP, with practical experience troubleshooting name resolution, addressing, authentication, and connectivity issues
  • Strong PowerShell skills, with experience developing and maintaining scripts to automate administration, provisioning, monitoring, reporting, and repetitive operational tasks
  • Hands-on experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V, including virtual machine provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting backup and recovery environments, including monitoring backup jobs, investigating failures, performing restores, and contributing to disaster recovery processes
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, with experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, VPN, firewall, and infrastructure connectivity issues
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and system maintenance, with the ability to identify and address performance, availability, and capacity issues proactively
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues across multiple systems and drive them through to resolution
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure security practices, including access control, patch management, secure configuration, and system hardening
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to maintain technical documentation and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with Azure/AWS, Linux, SCCM, Ansible, or multi-site infrastructure is considered an asset

🔥 What Makes This Role Exciting?

  • Infrastructure Ownership: Take ownership of critical systems and contribute to the reliability, security, and performance of the infrastructure supporting the organization
  • Automation & Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline administration and improve operational efficiency through PowerShell automation and process optimization
  • Technical Breadth: Work across a diverse infrastructure environment spanning Windows Server, Microsoft 365, virtualization, networking, backup and recovery, and security
  • Business Impact: Support technology that is integral to day-to-day operations across multiple locations, giving your work a direct and measurable business impact
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, migrations, deployments, and modernization initiatives while helping evolve the organization's IT environment

Benefits

  • Salary: $70,000 - $75,000
  • Paid Time Off: Competitive vacation and personal days to support a sustainable work-life balance
  • Health Benefits: Comprehensive benefits coverage designed to support your health and well-being, with options to meet individual and family needs
  • Technical Growth: Exposure to a broad technology environment and the opportunity to contribute to projects that strengthen and modernize the organization's IT infrastructure
