Job description

Cascadia Metals is built on strong founding principles and a long-standing commitment to doing things the right way. Our continued growth reflects the dedication of our owner and our ongoing investment in our infrastructure-and most importantly, our people.

Cascadia Metals is seeking a Production Planner at our Port Kells branch. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and optimizing daily production, fulfillment, and shipping activities across multiple operational areas, including Cut-to-Length (CTL), Slitting, and Sheet Stock Fulfillment.

This role operates within a centralized planning team and works closely with other planners (CTL, Slitter, Logistics, and Pick & Pack) to ensure all orders flow efficiently from order entry through production to final delivery.

The position serves as a key connector between Sales, Production, Inventory, and Shipping.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Review incoming picking lists and convert them into actionable work orders
  • Build and maintain daily and next-day production schedules for CTL and Slitter operations
  • Coordinate scheduling decisions with other planners to balance workload and avoid bottlenecks
  • Prioritize orders based on customer requirements, material availability, and operational efficiency
  • Ensure materials are staged and ready in collaboration with production teams

Work Order Management

  • Create detailed work orders with clear instructions, material requirements, and customer notes
  • Align priorities with fellow planners to maintain overall operational flow
  • Verify order specifications and confirm details with Sales when required
  • Track and update work order status through completion
  • Ensure all completed jobs are properly recorded and closed in the system

Inventory & Material Coordination

  • Validate material availability and proactively identify shortages
  • Work closely with Inventory Control and planners to manage shared resources
  • Review inventory processing reports and ensure accurate system updates
  • Support receiving and tagging of incoming materials when required

Fulfillment & Shipping Alignment

  • Align production output with shipping schedules in coordination with the Logistics Planner
  • Collaborate with Pick & Pack Planner to ensure proper order sequencing and readiness
  • Support load planning, consolidation, and delivery timelines
  • Assist in converting picking lists into packing lists and shipment planning

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Act as a communication hub between Sales, Production, Logistics, Warehouse, and other planners
  • Participate in daily planning and production meetings
  • Provide updates on order status, delays, and machine availability
  • Continuously collaborate with the planning team to adjust priorities and optimize workflow

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain production reports, planning logs, and daily performance tracking
  • Identify inefficiencies across planning functions and recommend improvements
  • Ensure accuracy in documentation and system updates

Qualifications

  • Experience in production planning, scheduling, or logistics coordination (manufacturing or industrial environment preferred)
  • Proven ability to work within a team-based planning environment
  • Strong understanding of workflow coordination across production and shipping
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with ERP systems (Steel Plus or similar is an asset)
  • Proficiency in Excel or reporting tools is an advantage.

Key Competencies

  • Team-based planning and collaboration
  • Operational awareness (end-to-end order flow)
  • Decision-making under pressure
  • Time and priority management
  • Process-driven with a continuous improvement mindset.

Joining Cascadia Metals means being part of a thriving and expanding organization that values its employees. Here is why you should consider working for us:

  • Work-Life Balance: We respect personal time and promote a healthy balance between work and life.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Company-paid Extended Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance coverage.
  • RRSP Matching: 4% RRSP matching program is available after 3 months of employment.

We are committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, and safe workplace. Cascadia Metals thanks all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
