Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Day Surgery Unit provides nursing care to same day and short stay surgery patients. As the Licensed Practical Nurse - Surgical Short Stay you will be responsible for providing patient care using the nursing process in a fast paced and dynamic environment. You will be expected to display leadership through mentoring and orientating new staff and/or students to the unit. In addition, you will demonstrate excellence in patient and family centered care, patient advocacy and teaching; a collaborative team-based approach; conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills; and a commitment to fostering an environment of respect, promoting the values of AHS. This is a fast-paced non-sedentary unit which will require nursing ability to lift, push, pull, stand and have dexterity of movement (supporting, carrying, holding). In the heart of the Canadian Badlands in Southern Alberta, the Drumheller Valley offers visitors a unique combination of spectacular scenery and interesting things to do – think Jurassic Park! Rolling fields suddenly give way to steep, dry coulees ridged with the strata of hundreds of years of erosion by time, wind and water. Through it all, the tranquil Red Deer River gently makes its way through parkland and a myriad of recreational opportunities.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Day Surgery experience. Adult Surgical Unit Experience Care Inpatient and Day Surgery Connect Care training. Applicable competencies / certificates up to date for an inpatient acute care facility.
