Job description

Position Title: Controls Specialist / Engineer, Senior
Reports to: Mobile Systems Group Manager
Location: Welland, ON

Position Summary:
Responsible for the management of end-to-end application and product ownership of mobile off-highway control systems, including system architecture, hardware selection, and embedded software development

Key Responsibilities:

  • Application & Product Ownership: Own applications from concept through support and act as primary technical interface.
  • System Architecture: Define control strategies and system architecture aligned with hardware capabilities
  • Hardware Selection: Select Control hardware, Electronics sensors, and define system integration
  • Software Development: Develop using C/C++, CODESYS
  • Communication Systems: Design and troubleshoot CAN networks (SAE J1939, CANopen)
  • Testing & Commissioning: Perform machine-level validation and field troubleshooting.

    Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • System-level thinking across hardware and software
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and to work independently to set daily priorities and workload.
  • Ability to write reports and standard business correspondence.
  • Product Management: Keeping abreast of trends and communication of changes.
  • Self-Starter and Motivator.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with distributors, regional sales managers and customers.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Ability to communicate in second language (German or Italian would be a definite asset).
  • Understanding of hydraulic circuits, components and applications.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to customer locations for (possible multi-day) technical meetings.

    Qualifications:
  • Technical degree or diploma in Electronics, Mechatronics, Technical Computer science.
  • Professional registration (as P.Eng, EIT or CET) would be considered an asset.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in hydraulics control systems.
  • Programming knowledge:
  • C / C++
  • CODESYS is an asset
  • SPS/PLC languages.
  • Communication knowledge:
  • SAE J1939
  • CANOpen
  • Assets:
  • Python, Javascript
  • ML / AI exposure
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience with SAP would be considered an asset.

Compensation:

  • $100,000 to $120,000 CAD per year, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
