Reporting to the Manager, Network Services, the Senior Wireless Specialist is responsible for leading the design, deployment, and optimization of ground breaking wireless networks based on Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA). They will have a strong background in Cisco technologies, including DNA Center, alongside a deep understanding of wireless communication systems! This role involves collaborating with multi-functional teams towards ensuring the seamless, secure, and high-performance wireless solutions for enterprise environments.
This contract role is based in Vancouver, BC in a hybrid work environment or can be performed fully remote.
Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Plan, design, and deploy robust wireless networks with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
Conduct site surveys and RF analysis to ensure efficient wireless coverage and optimize network configurations to reduce interference and maximize throughput
Implementation of wireless Quality of Service (QoS)
Collaborate with network engineers and security teams to integrate Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) and Access Points (APs) into the Cisco ISE 3.x environment
Ensure the integration supports advanced security policies, seamless authentication, and automated access provisioning
Configure RADIUS and TACACS+ protocols for secure communication between wireless devices and Cisco ISE
Validate wireless endpoints through identity-based access controls leveraging certificates, 802.1X authentication, and profiling
Design and implement custom guest Wi-Fi portals to provide secure, self-service access for visitors
Configure guest onboarding workflows, including email / SMS verification, sponsor approvals, and time-limited access
Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and relevant data privacy regulations
Monitor and optimize portal performance to deliver a seamless user experience
Develop BYOD onboarding solutions to streamline the process of securely registering personal devices on the network
Enable certificate-based authentication or integration with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms for enhanced security
Configure policies to segment BYOD traffic and restrict access to sensitive resources, ensuring proper network hygiene
Provide end-user support and training materials to simplify the onboarding process
Assist with wireless network projects, including upgrades, migrations, and expansions
Work closely with Network Wireless Service Owner, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of wireless solutions
Provide technical expertise in project planning and execution
Implement and manage security protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards
Protect wireless networks against threats using advanced security features of Cisco technologies
Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures
Mentor and train junior engineers on Cisco DNA and wireless networking best practices
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in wireless network design, deployment, and problem solving
3+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco DNA Center and associated technologies
Preferred certifications include : Cisco Certified Specialist - Enterprise Wireless Design, Enterprise Core, CCNP-W, Ekahau or similar RF design certifications
Experience with Physical and Cloud based Cisco IOS based Wireless LAN Control Systems (9800 Series) and Cisco Wireless Access Points (9xxx Series)
Proficiency in configuring and managing Cisco DNA, including Assurance, Automation, and Policy Enforcement
Strong understanding of Wi-Fi technologies ( 802.11 standards), RF fundamentals including Wifi 7 , and network design principles
Familiarity with network protocols, security standards, and QoS
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities
