We are a fully delegated Indigenous Children & Family Service Agency providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó:lō Territory in the Fraser Valley between Yale First Nation and Surrey BC.

Float Social Worker - West - #

Regular, Full Time Positions- (Abbotsford, Mission, Langley)

Salary- $69,.65 - $89,.82 (35 hrs. per week)

Please note that anyone applying for this position maybe subject to the wage growth series within the Indigenous Delegated Social Worker Progression (IDSWP) outlined in the Collective Agreement APPENDIX A1. Anyone placed on the IDSWP growth series will not be eligible for the temporary market adjustment until they reach full working level Grid 24, Step 1.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Float Social Workers are regular full-time employees that may be scheduled to work from any of our offices in Langley, Abbotsford, and Mission.

Under the guidance and supervision of their DelegatedTeam Leader, Social Workers on Multidisciplinary Teams are responsible for developing a trusting and respectful relationship with children, families, and communities the Agency serves. Float Social Workers at Xyólheméylh can expect to contribute to our mission across the entire social work service delivery spectrum.

Xyólheméylh is proud to have an Elders Advisory Council to ensure that culture is embedded throughout the agency ensuring the goals, missions and values are upheld in a good way. Lets'emót – to be of one heart and one mind.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Child and Youth Care Degree or a Social Sciences degree
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the human services field would be an asset.
  • A combination of related education in a human services field and experience may be accepted.
  • Must be delegated or able/willing to attend training for C6 delegation in the province of B.C.
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in: developing strong working relationships with children, families, Indigenous communities, foster parents, biological parents, and other FVACFSS employees; developing contractual arrangements with clients, caregivers, and other professionals; balancing competing priorities; working under pressure; writing concise reports to various audiences; representing and promoting FVACFSS; and conducting investigations, completing assessments, developing work plans, implementing plans and evaluating intervention success.
  • Ability to comply with practice standards set out in the Child Protection Response Policy (Chapter 3), B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act, and the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI) Manual.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the generational impacts of colonization, the Residential School System, and historical child welfare policies, on Indigenous people and their families; as well as the findings of the TRCC and recommendations.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Stó:lō cultural practices and traditions and how culture impacts the development of individuals and communities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal & communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively to provide coordinated service.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Professional commitment, flexibility, good problem solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Computer literacy on databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer software.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (no restrictions); reliable transportation with adequate vehicle insurance
  • Criminal Records Check is a requirement.
