The Electrical Engineer in Facilities supports the Facilities Department with the management of electrical systems for facility related assets to ensure safe and reliable electrical distribution systems. This includes both short and long term project planning, development, and execution alongside daily operations related engineering services. This position will be required to act as the owner’s representative for a vast and expansive asset base, spanning nearly 150 facilities including arenas, pools, firehalls, administration, cultural, utility operations and other building assets. In addition to the technical component, this position will be responsible for supporting the department’s electrical Technicians and their associated maintenance duties. Also, this position will provide relief management coverage on an as‑needed basis and is a key part of the Facilities management group.
Capital & Operational Project Scoping & Prioritization
- Leads the prioritization of renewal for electrical assets, communicates priorities holistically to allow for prioritization within other systems and against other interests, prepares detailed justifications and reports
- Provides leadership, technical expertise, and consultation for capital projects related to electrical systems and equipment, including partnership with electric utility
- Identifies, develops, and estimates project requirements for all renewal capital for electrical assets, determines expenditure type – capital vs. operating, and executes projects accordingly
- Supports the development of the annual, and ten‑year capital plans using evidence‑based practices including information from building condition assessment data

Knowledge
Registered Professional Engineer with EGBC and a minimum 5+ years related work experience, or equivalent combination of related education and experience in electrical field. Extensive experience in the technical design of HV, MV, and LV distribution systems including utility interconnections. Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code as adopted in British Columbia. Solid understanding of applicable building codes, CSA, IEEE, ASHRAE and other relevant standards. Working knowledge and experience of power studies, including short‑circuit, arc‑flash and coordination studies. Has additional training / designations from Project Management Institute or other related institutions. This position requires extensive knowledge in facilities engineering, operations and maintenance to ensure that facility electrical‑related assets are maintained to an acceptable standard.

Leadership; ability to analyze technical information and review designs; conduct field reviews; creativity / problem solving; understanding of asset management and program development; conduct research and write comprehensive reports; knowledge of local government processes, legislation and bylaws; experience with public and stakeholder engagement; and excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Additional Hiring Information
The annual salary for this position ranges from $119,800 to $139,700, depending on qualifications and experience. Most candidates can expect to start in the lower to mid‑range of this scale, with opportunities for salary growth based on performance and tenure.
