Canada Summer Job, Community Engagement Assistant, London Coffee House Canada Summer Jobs Position - (OPSEU) This posting is the result of an existing vacancy Full-Time, Contract (end date in August 2026) Application Deadline: May 11, 2026 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a federal program committed to help young people gain employment information, skills and experience.

This program aims to support young people, particularly those from communities facing barriers to employment, as they transition into the labour market.

The London Coffee House (LCH) Community Engagement Assistant will be responsibility for working with the LCH team to support the daily operations of the site and engagement of individuals accessing the program.

This will involve the creation and facilitation of meaningful and fun social/recreational activities and community events for LCH participants, support the delivery of the daily nutrition program, assist with the processing and distribution of donations.

Overall, the London Coffee House, Community Engegment Assistant will make significant and positive contributions to the LCH team through helping improve the quality of life and sense of belonging and inclusion for people who have experiences with homelessness, poverty, mental health, addictions and other complex health issues.

  • Consider making a difference in your community by joining our team! WHAT WE'RE OFFERING: What you'll be making - $17.60 per hour When you'll work - This position is 35 hours per week for approximately 10 weeks.

Monday - Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm.

Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Provide a safe, respectful and welcoming atmosphere that encourages engagement and connection with clients of the London Coffee House Support the creation and facilitation of fun and meaningful social and recreational group and opportunities for clients of the London Coffee House, including a focus on wholistic aspects of wellbeing Gather feedback from London Coffee House clients about the types of programming they wish to participate in and design/co-design programming based on this input Assist with receiving, sorting, stocking, and distribution of donations, including food and nutrition donations, as well as clothing and basic needs items; help maintain cleanliness of storage areas Assist with preparation and serving of food items and beverages, and general support for kitchen cleanliness including washing dishes, utensils and kitchen appliances and ensure their proper and safe storage Assist with assembling and distributing harm reduction kits Provide support for the general start and end of shift regiment of the London Coffee House (i.e.

sweeping/moping of floors, wiping down highly touch surfaces, preparation of coffee and food, site organization, etc.) Assist with the creation of content for London Coffee House social media channels Act as a positive spokesperson and advocate for London Coffee House services and clients in the London and Hamilton Road communities Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of clients accessing LCH services and support WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY: Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.

Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications: Canada Summer Jobs requirements: Will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and am legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.) Post-secondary education completed or in progress within social work, social services, mental health and/or addictions Ability to attend work regularly Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) We prefer the following qualifications: First Aid/CPR Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or individuals with mental health issues is considered an asset Experience creating and facilitating groups is considered an asset Effective communication skills with diverse populations Excellent customer service skills and a strong, demonstrated ability to organize space and inventory Good working knowledge of computer office technology such as word-processing, spreadsheets, database records, internet and e-mail resources, etc.
