About the Senior data Governance Specialist role

The Senior Data Governance Specialist encompasses comprehensive subject matter expertise in data governance principles, practices and processes, and their application in business contexts. This includes data management concepts, organizational data flows, applicable legislative and regulatory considerations, and the impact of data quality on business operations. This role develops and maintains data governance frameworks, standards, and policies, as well as working closely with data architecture to continually understand the technology environment for both data governance and the data itself. They will also support the delivery of the Data Governance Program by executing day-to-day operations, coordinating working groups, and ensuring consistent application of governance practices across ANBL and CNB. This role will be the first point of contact for Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians across the organization, collaborating with them to implement program activities, monitor data quality, and provide timely support in all data quality and governance matters. This role will play a key part in driving organizational change and securing buy-in, as the program represents a significant shift in the way we work with Data Governance.
Additional Responsibilities
- Data Operations – Support day-to-day operations, along with the advancement of data governance, and data owners / stewards / custodians.
- Data Quality Monitoring – Develop and execute data quality metrics and dashboards, troubleshoot and investigate date issues, while acting as the first point of contact and collaborating with Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians to resolve discrepancies and to improve data integrity.
- Policies & Standards – Draft, maintain and periodically review data governance policies, standards, and procedures that comply with legislative and regulatory requirements, and that address data security, metadata management, and data catalog.
- Business Collaboration – Build relationships across the business to advise on and support adherence to data governance policies and standards and understanding their pain points to potentially update procedures.
- Change Management & Communications – Lead development of communication materials and training content to increase awareness of data governance across ANBL and CNB. Coordinate surveys and feedback forums to measure adoption and maturity of data governance understanding.
- Metrics & Reporting – Track and report on key performance indicators related to data quality improvements, data governance adoption, and program effectiveness. Maintain dashboards and reports to identify key risks and to provide key insights to leadership.
What do you need to be successful?
- Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Information Management, or Technology
- 5+ years of experience in defining and supporting data governance initiatives
- Expert knowledge in data governance frameworks and principles, and how they are applied across an organization
- Strong familiarity of data administration, data warehousing, and data movement tools
- Knowledge of privacy, security, and compliance requirements related to data
- Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking and problem-solving
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Commitment to confidentiality and discretion
- Proficiency in Excel and Visio (or other equivalent data analysis and process design tools)
Language competencies
- Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset, but not required
Work location:
- The Retail Operations Centre is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
- The successful candidate must be based in New Brunswick, remote work is possible.
- Semi-regular travel for meetings and project work may be required.
