Vestrum is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our talented database team in support of our development of real-world evidence used by medical professionals and the pharmaceutical industry.
This position is responsible for the availability, integrity, accessibility, and performance of all the Vestrum database systems by supporting, enhancing, administering, and maintaining our corporate databases. The position also requires the management of staff engaged in operational aspects of the data administration process.
A day in the Life :
Ensure weekly EHR data updates for existing Vestrum panel physicians are complete and appropriately loaded into databases and their associated applications
- Maintain current ETL processes to ensure data availability
- Must have Data architecture, scalable data processing framework development experience
- Experience with ETL migration from SQL Server to AWS using analytical services
- For new panel members and new applications, standardize free-text and other unstructured data fields including PDF files into structured data with associated updates to the data base
- Continue to develop automated quality assurance functions to validate incoming data and ensure the data are loaded into the warehouse appropriately
- Merge longitudinal patient level data from a variety of different sources and manage a tokenization project to link patient information from different sources
- Maintain various mapping tables for use by analysts (physicians, drugs, dosage forms and strengths, etc.)
- Familiar with linking and transforming patient activity data into standardized outputs.
- Implement requirements for backup and recovery and ensure successful nightly recoverable backups of all databases
- Maintain data base documentation describing data elements
- Manage database configuration on AWS
- Define new data architecture and process to improve performance using AWS analytical services
- Maintain database security
- Ensure HIPPA, GDPR compliance
- Perform database space management and monitoring
- Manage operations including distribution of weekly and monthly reports
- Communicate with and maintain strong relations with data suppliers
- Machine learning, NLP processing experience is a Plus
- Maintaining and developing the relationship with external hosting provider for existing server hardware
Keys to Success : Education
Bachelor (BS) of computer science or equivalent is required.
Experience
Must have EMR or health care or pharmaceutical domain experience
Must have Python or Java experience
Relational, columnar, document oriented and cloud database experience is a plus
Experience in problem solving, troubleshooting and analyzing database issues and / or problems and to take appropriate corrective action
Experience with implementing data encryption
Experience in researching and / or applying current trends, methodologies, standards, practices and / or products in an IT environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Must be SQL Server database expert
Must know SSRS – SQL server reporting service
Must be a SQL expert
Must be able to guide and mentor the Junior developers
Must be able to lead the project
AWS analytical services experience – S3, Glue, Lambda, RDS, Redshift services is required
Must know ETL data processing tools and services
AWS non-relational database service experience is a plus
Significant experience onboarding new EMR data sources and integrating these data into the existing database structure
