Job description

Cooke is a global seafood company with operations in North America, Europe, South America and Australia. Our company’s success is driven by our dynamic, highly skilled, and innovative management team, supported by dedicated employees who live in coastal communities and contribute to the local area’s economy and sense of community.

Cooke is strengthening enterprise decision‑making through disciplined Business Architecture, strong governance, and clear alignment between business structure, strategy, and technology enablement. Business Architecture provides a shared understanding of what the business does, how it delivers value, and what must change to support strategic priorities.

As a Business Architect, you own and apply Business Architecture practices that enable clear, consistent, and informed decisions across strategic decision‑making, investment planning, and delivery execution.

The Role

As a Business Architect, you are responsible for owning and evolving the enterprise Business Architecture, aligned to industry standards such as BIZBOK and/or TOGAF Business Architecture. You act as the steward of the Business Capability Model and related architectural views, ensuring they are clear, consistent, and actively used. You partner closely with Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio, and Delivery teams to provide capability‑based insights that inform planning, prioritization, and change decisions. You provide the architectural foundation that enables consistent planning and execution of change through a shared, enterprise‑level understanding of business capabilities, value streams, and impacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the enterprise Business Capability Model as the authoritative, governed view of the business
  • Define and maintain business value streams, outcomes, and capability relationships to describe how value is delivered
  • Apply and uphold Business Architecture standards and practices aligned to BIZBOK and/or TOGAF Business Architecture
  • Provide business capability insights and impact analysis used to support enterprise investment and governance decisions
  • Define capability target states, evolution, and transition views, identifying dependencies, sequencing logic, and organizational readiness
  • Conduct capability maturity and gap assessments to identify improvement opportunities, structural risks, and cross‑domain dependencies
  • Identify business capability redundancies and fragmentation, providing business‑driven insight to inform application and technology consolidation and optimization decisions
  • Facilitate cross‑functional workshops focused on capability impact, structural alignment, and transformation feasibility
  • Support architecture and portfolio governance by ensuring initiatives demonstrate alignment with agreed business capabilities and target states
  • Collaborate with Enterprise, solution, and technology architects to ensure ongoing alignment between business architecture and technology design
  • Coach and guide team members in Business Architecture concepts, standards, and best practices

What Success Looks Like

  • The Business Capability Model is clear, trusted, and actively used across the organization
  • Strategy and investment discussions routinely reference capabilities and value streams
  • Initiatives entering delivery show clear alignment with Business Architecture
  • Leaders have a shared understanding of business change impacts and dependencies
  • Capability‑level insight enables informed consolidation and optimization decisions across applications and technologies
  • Business Architecture is recognized as a practical, decision‑support discipline

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Strong Business Architecture expertise, including business capability modeling, value stream and outcome mapping, and capability maturity assessment
  • Hands‑on experience applying BIZBOK and/or TOGAF Business Architecture concepts
  • Enterprise‑level analytical and systems‑thinking skills
  • Capability‑based transformation and evolution planning
  • Clear, confident written, visual, and verbal communication, including executive audiences

Behaviors That Drive Success

  • Ownership & Accountability – Takes responsibility for architectural clarity and consistency
  • Enterprise Mindset – Thinks across domains and avoids siloed decision‑making
  • Collaboration & Influence – Builds trust with business and technology leaders
  • Outcome‑Focused – Connects architecture work to business value
  • Pragmatic & Disciplined – Applies standards in a practical, business‑relevant way

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–7+ years’ experience in Business Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or enterprise transformation roles
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining business capability models in complex environments
  • Experience of applying or aligning to Business Architecture frameworks (BIZBOK, TOGAF)
  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior business and IT stakeholders
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture or planning tools is an asset
