Job Title: Overhead Crane Operator

Job Description

This role involves safely operating an overhead crane to unload trucks, organize and stock materials in a rotating elevator material stock system, and, in some cases, operate a manual brake press. You work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, handling materials from receipt through to organized storage while maintaining accuracy in paperwork and system entries.

Responsibilities

• Unload approximately three trucks per day using the overhead crane, ensuring safe and efficient handling of materials.
• Stock incoming materials and organize them within the rotating elevator-style material stock system.
• Maintain an orderly and clearly labeled material storage area to support smooth production flow.
• For the second position, spend about 50% of the time organizing and stocking material in the material stock system.
• Operate the manual Salvagnini brake press for approximately 50% of the time, following production specifications and safety procedures.
• Follow production schedules and instructions to keep the line running efficiently from start to finish.
• Work with production paperwork and enter or verify information in ERP/MRP systems to maintain accurate inventory and job records.
• Lift and move materials weighing 50 pounds or more as needed throughout the shift.
• Collaborate with the line team and lead hand to meet quality, safety, and productivity targets.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies while operating equipment and moving materials.

Essential Skills

• At least 1.5 years of experience operating an overhead crane in a production or industrial setting.
• Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate production and machine equipment safely and efficiently.
• Comfort lifting and handling loads of 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
• Experience working with paperwork related to production, inventory, or shipping.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for tracking materials and jobs.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a line team and communicate clearly with coworkers and lead hands.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating a manual brake press, preferably a Salvagnini, is an asset.
• Experience in production or machine operation in a similar manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational skills for managing material flow and stock locations.
• Ability to multitask between material handling, documentation, and machine operation.

Work Environment

This is a manufacturing floor role with both day and afternoon shift options. Day shift runs from 7:00 . to 3:30 ., and afternoon shift runs from 3:30 . to midnight. The line typically consists of four people plus a lead hand, and the operator is responsible for the process from start to finish on the line. On days, there are about 80 people on the floor, and on afternoons, about 35 people, providing a busy but collaborative environment. You work with an overhead crane, a rotating elevator-style material stock system, and a manual Salvagnini brake press in a production-focused setting that requires regular material handling and adherence to safety practices.
