Venor is proud to partner with Eastern 2.0 Waste Systems on their search for a Controller to join their team in Antigonish, NS.

Eastern 2.0 Waste Systems is part of a family of six companies providing waste removal, recycling, and related services across Nova Scotia. Since 1984, we’ve been Northeastern Nova Scotia’s trusted sanitation experts, delivering reliable, environmentally responsible solutions with a “can-do” attitude. Our sister companies specialize in septic services, secure storage, landfill operations, and industrial gas supply, allowing us to serve a wide range of client needs.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands‑on Controller to oversee financial operations and provide strategic insights. The ideal candidate will manage financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance, working directly with the Owner / President. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to take ownership of financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to support business decisions.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Collaborate with the Owner / President on strategic financial matters.
  • Collaborate with external accountants for year end and throughout the year, as required.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in financial operations.
  • Take ownership of financial reporting and contribute to business strategy and decision‑making.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Experience managing or overseeing accounting processes or teams.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset, but not required.
