The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization established in 1982. Owned and operated by federal, provincial, and territorial governments, CIFFC employs just over 20 dedicated staff members. Its mandate is to enhance Canadian wildfire preparedness, and response through resource sharing, mutual aid, and information coordination. To assist with this mandate, CIFFC coordinates exchange and training standards through a number of interagency committees, working groups, and its ICS Canada program. CIFFC is also mandated to take an enhanced leadership role and support the efforts of all jurisdictions to expand their prevention and mitigation initiatives through CIFFC’s FireSmart Canada program and is further directed by the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers to operationalize pan-Canadian prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities. Guided by a Board of Directors and Management Committee, CIFFC operates as a trusted coordinating body for national and international firefighting efforts, including through formal arrangements between the government of Canada and a variety of key international partners. Through its cooperative relationships and strategic initiatives, CIFFC continues to influence the future of wildfire management while supporting safe, resilient forests for generations to come.
