Job description

Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our team in a full-time role based out of any AECOM office across Canada.

In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of projects involving hydroelectric generating stations, pumped-storage hydropower facilities, dams, and hydraulic structures. You may also collaborate with other business lines on multidisciplinary projects related to port infrastructure, transportation structures, and environmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead and take ownership of discipline-specific assignments, coordinating engineering professionals and technical teams involved in project delivery.
  • Prepare and author technical reports and calculation packages for a variety of projects, including hydraulic studies and analyses, energy production simulations, transient flow analyses, and dam safety assessments.
  • Carry out feasibility studies, preliminary design, and detailed engineering for hydropower developments and pumped storage facilities (powerhouses, dams, spillways, diversion structures, etc.), as well as, on occasion, other hydraulic infrastructure such as canals and bridges.
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrodynamic numerical modelling, including dam breach analyses using 1D, 2D, and 3D models.
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical studies prepared by team members and provide technical oversight and mentorship to engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer and member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or eligible for registration.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in hydraulic design for hydropower developments, hydraulic modelling, and dam safety engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of the HEC software suite (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, etc.).
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 20+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with Flow-3D and Simsen software.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) to support projects and clients across Canada and internationally.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
