The Opportunity - Resident Assistant

As a crucial member of the Residence Services team, Resident Assistants (RAs) will have a direct impact on students and their experience in residence. You will regularly plan, facilitate, and organize a variety of programs and events that best serve student needs and interests. You will also support students through their transition into college life. You will have the opportunity to be both mentored and challenged in a way that will set you up for success in your future career. Time management, leadership, communication, and conflict mediation skills are among some of the transferable competencies you will gain from this experience. Contract Dates: August 24, 2026 - April 23, 2027 (Subject to Change)

Salary: $15.00/hour & 50% off the All-You-Care-To-Eat meal plan

Time Commitment:

  • 40 hours per week (during RA Training)
  • 17.5 hours biweekly (after RA Training)

Key Job Functions:

Supervision of Residence Community

  • Acts as an upstander in the campus community
  • Understands and upholds the community living standards and Olds College code of conduct
  • Possess knowledge of residence operations, campus and community resources and be able to inform and direct students appropriately.
  • Bring feedback from students forward to inform decision making and operational planning
  • Assists residents in making connections on campus and making them feel part of the community
  • Conduct regular building inspections to ensure a timely response to facilities related issues

Programming

  • Plan, execute, and support residence-wide events to suit the needs and interest of students.
  • Create bulletin boards and other passive programs during specific times of the year.
  • Contribute ideas to the biweekly programming calendar and work with other RAs to brainstorm proposals
  • Promote and advertise events within residence and the broader college community. This includes use of the Olds College Residence social media pages and participating in Residence marketing campaigns (eg. video testimonies).
  • Work collaboratively with departments outside of residence on supporting campus-wide events.

Meeting and Training Sessions

  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, including:Weekly Team Meetings (typically held on a weekday evening)Monthly Food Services Committee meetingsBiweekly meetings with the Residence Life CoordinatorThe entirety of Fall Training (end of August)The entirety of Winter Training (first weekend in January)All other training sessions as assigned by the Residence Life Coordinator

Administrative

  • Assist the Residence Services team with September and January move-in days, and pass/fail inspections
  • Provides support to the front desk: answering questions and queries, retrieving email etc.
  • Respond to all work related inquiries and correspondence related to the role
  • Schedule office work hours to address student concerns and support urgent residence tasks.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled as an Olds College student, with priority given to programs that run from September-April
  • Must live on-campus
  • Must maintain at least a 2.3 GPA throughout the year
  • Must be on the All-You-Care-To-Eat meal plan
  • Previous experience working in a team or leadership role is an asset
  • First Aid certification is an asset

First Semester

  • RA Training: August 24th-September 4th, 2026
  • September Move-In: Sunday, September 6th, 2026
  • Orientation Week: September 7th - 13th, 2026
  • Open House: weekend in October or November
  • LEAD Conference: November 13th - 15th, 2026

Second Semester

  • Winter Retreat: January 7th & 8th, 2027
  • January Move-In: January 9th, 2027
  • Frost Week: January 10th - 17th , 2027
