Job Purpose
The Director of Operations is responsible for managing all company product manufacturing operations and for achieving the company’s on-going production goals.
Responsibilities include the efficient, effective management of the inventory as well as quality control and the timely delivery of the product to customers.
Participates in the development of strategic and operational plans and advises the team regarding new production, inventory and supplier management practices.
Creates production plans and keeps the team informed regarding their status. revisions to existing products. Directs the efforts of several managers and a large team of production The Director of Operations reports to the Vice President and General Manager.
Role - Typical Duties :
- Participates as a key member of the company’s Executive Team to plan the company’s direction and priorities and to make critical business decisions.
- Develops production plans that form a key part of the company’s on-going operating plans and plans for the fiscal year.
Participates in the development of company budgets, including capital equipment for the production area.
- Provides input to Strategic & Operational planning activities and is an advocate of Continuous Improvements via product, process & supply chain improvements within Operations.
- Works closely with the Marketing and Sales Department to anticipate the volume of production required to meet the demand for each ICOR Technology product.
- Regularly consults with the Production Scheduler to approve updates to the production schedule and accommodate changes to the actual orders received from customers.
- Responsible for quality control and ensuring that production processes and systems result in products that consistently meet customer requirements.
Includes the development and introduction of new production systems and equipment.
Ensures that the purchasing and inventory of raw materials, work-in-process and final product is efficiently managed and that the production process is supplied with raw materials on a timely basis.
Responsible for the supply management and purchasing function for all areas of the company, including the acquisition of office supplies and capital equipment.
- Proactively raises important issues, that could effect the quality or timely delivery of the company’s product to its customers, to the Executive Team and the Vice President and General Manager, as required.
- Develops a culture of excellence in performance, continuous improvement and learning throughout the Production Department.
- Regularly provides information to the managers and employees in the Production Department regarding its customers, sales, markets and products to keep them up-to-date.
- Directs the efforts of several managers and a large team of production employees, including performance management and personal development.
- Ensures that safety procedures and safe work practices are in place across the company, in compliance with provincial and federal regulations (including WHMIS).
Arranges for the training of all staff in safe work practices, first aid and emergency evacuation.
Other duties as required.
Skills and Training Required
- A minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on production, inventory and quality control experience, preferably in the defense or security technology products industries
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a senior manager responsible for leading a production and inventory organization and achieving production goals, ideally familiar with small size business 50-100 employees.
- A university degree in business administration, mechanical engineering or applied sciences. A master’s degree in business administration is preferred.
- Knowledge of best practices in total quality management and continuous improvement methodologies. Professional designation / certification in Lean Six Sigma is a definite asset.
- Ability to evaluate sales forecasts and develop accurate production schedules

- Strong strategic perspective and the ability to work with other executives and key stakeholders to develop business strategies
- Ability to develop and implement effective production and inventory management strategies, including automated systems, software and production equipment
- Knowledge of statistical process control
- Effective presentation, negotiation and influencing skills
- Ability to lead experienced production, inventory and quality control managers and staff
- Effective listening and verbal communication skills for understanding, analyzing explaining production problems. Strong report writing skills
- Ability to make decisions within defined limits
- Responds effectively to change, conflict and stressful situations. An effective change manager.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices
