Position Overview :
As part of the Wastewater Collection team, this position is responsible for the operation of the pumping stations including monitoring, inspection, maintenance, testing, and system adjustments to maintain compliance of wastewater flow.
The Wastewater Collection Operator III will also provide general building custodial work and grounds maintenance at the pumping stations.
Responsibilities :
- Pumping Station Maintainer on an assigned crew and participating in a sewer on-call rotation in a Lead Hand capacity.
- Operates the wastewater collection system in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with operating manuals and procedures.
- Ensures the wastewater collection system is monitored, operated, maintained, tested, and adjusted to maintain compliance.
- Repairs pumps as required, including replacement of parts and pump rebuilding.
- Responds to alarms and calls related to pumping station operation; troubleshoots, determines, and takes proper action to resolve problem.
- Maintains records, logbooks, and equipment readings related to the maintenance, inspection, operation, and repair of the wastewater collection system.
- Performs confined space entries to inspect, maintain, or repair the wastewater collection system.
- Determines pumping station security by checking grounds, doors, and alarm switches for tampering or vandalism; locks doors and gates on departure;
reports security discrepancies.
- Provides technical guidance to Wastewater Collection Operators I & II staff related to maintenance activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned including assisting with operational emergencies / priorities such as winter operations.

Requirements :
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ministry of Environment (MOE) Wastewater Collection License Level III.
- Valid MTO "DZ" class driver's license in good standing.
- Knowledge of wastewater collection systems and sewage pumping stations, their components, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and the ability to configure and monitor the system.
- Knowledge of proper operation of safety equipment including fire extinguishers and gas monitoring devices.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment / systems to troubleshoot and solve operational problems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose station failures / alarms and determine proper course of action / repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings as they relate to the wastewater collection systems and associated facilities.
- Must be a competent person as defined by the Ontario Health & Safety Act.
- Must be available for "on call" duty and winter call outs as required.
- Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
- Ability to successfully complete required job progression criteria as it relates to this job title.
- Preference may be given to applicants with Level 4 Wastewater Collection licenses.
